Not a huge movement on the scale, however, the scale does not tell the whole story. My body composition has finally flipped to where more of my weight is now muscle than fat!
Over the weekend, our small town had a "Love Montevallo Day" which is basically a day to encourage people to show the local Main Street merchants. We we were walking up and down Main Street, in and out of stores. I see my teenage son walk along the back aisle of one of the stores looking for something. He goes away and comes back a few minutes later and is suddenly, "Dad! I ain't going to lie. I walked by here three times looking for you and didn't recognize you. I was expecting to see a guy with a belly out to here," And reaches his arm about two feet in front of him. "I really had not realized how much weight you have lost until now. I mean I knew how many pounds, but you just look so different!"
This morning I looked in the mirror at the gym. I look at myself everyday, brushing my teeth or shaving and stuff, but today I LOOKED at myself. Instead of looking at the flab and sagging skin, I paid attention to my overall body and saw the contours from muscle and bone. As I moved, I could see the muscles ripple under my skin. I was amazed and spent a minute just flexing and observing. Then someone came into the locker room and I suddenly felt really stupid.
So I may have just lost 3 lbs last month, but I so much healthier.

THIS MESSAGE IS OF A VERY PERSONAL NATURE. I HAVE NO ONE TO TALK TO ABOUT THIS SO I AM POSTING HERE TO BOTH VENT AND TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAS GONE THROUGH THIS AND IF SO, WHAT SOLUTION THE FOUND.

My wife was getting ready for work today and she wanted to put some Harry Potter pins on that she got for her birthday Monday. They were weighing down the shirt she was wearing, so I tell her they would work better on a denim jacket rather than a cotton shirt. I go on to suggest she wear she "half jacket" with the shirt. (A long sleeve blue jean coat that come to just below her rib cage.) She gets mad at me for suggesting it and replies, "That doesn't fit me anymore!" Then when I get to work she sends me a text that says, "Just for the record, you now weigh a lot less then me. So, yay."

When I began this weight loss journey, I needed to lose about a 150 lbs and my wife needed to lose about 60 lbs to get to a healthy weight. While I have been working my ass off, however, she has been making excuses. I can no longer share my milestone successes with her because it makes her depressed that I am succeeding and she has not. Our marriage has also taken a turn for the worse. Our physical intimacy level has dropped to zero. The last time we were ... you know ... she said, "This is really weird, you have become boney."

WTF? Yeah, I would love to say, "Screw it all," sleep in, skip the gym, and eat whatever the hell I want. But that is not a realistic solution at all. I have mentioned her going to see a therapist and us going to counseling, but she is like, "when will we have the time? Or the money?" I say we need to make the time, find the money, but it turns into a fight where I am always the bad guy.

I love my wife. We will celebrate our 25th anniversary at the end of March. But I am at a loss at what to do next. If anyone else has experienced this issue, I would love to know what they did to get through this. Thanks for reading.

Long time no post.

Been busy ... real busy. Staying the course on the ... don't want to call it weight loss any more because it has moved beyond that, so let's call it a "body transformation".

BMI is almost to the point where I am longer considered "obese", merely overweight. According to my Smart Scale, the percentage of body weight from fat and muscle are now about even (it was about 4lbs of fat for every lb of muscle a year ago).

Still have the love/hate relationship with the gym, but I am still there almost every morning before the sun rises. The Sauna is my new best friend. I reward myself with 5 minutes of steam after each workout. It allows my body to get the humidity it misses during the winter months and is probably the only time all day long I am completely warm, head to toe.

SO LOOKING FORWARD TO SPRING AND SUMMER.

Happy Mardi Gras (and early Valentine's Day) everyone. Laissez la bon temps rouler!
