Had a good day today. This was prompted by the current heatwave and the fact that all my summer clothes are feeling downright snug. I can get those capris and shorts on and zip them up, but no one would want to see me in them! :P

I need to string together many good days. I need to get serious about eating good things and leaving those bad choices alone. I have stocked the kitchen with veggies, fruits, and snacks for the kids that do not tempt me. My mother-in-law is visiting, but I have a plan to get through this week with minimal damage.

I have signed up for the Rise Up 5K on the first of July. I had not been running much lately, but I have started training for that. On Sunday, I did 5K, running most of it, walking a little when I need to. I was surprised how well it went. I suppose all that hiking up and down mountains has left me in good condition. I did a shorter run today, but didn't feel the need to stop and walk (although I did have to jog in place while the dog took care of all his sniffing and other business :) ).

Things have been going well on this end (unless you count Easter candy, but thankfully, that is gone now!). The rains have moved off and I have gotten out hiking again. My friend and I finished our 7 trails challenge to earn our t-shirts from the kind folks at the county parks. (They did not have a t-shirt for my dog, who also hiked all seven trails, but he was okay with that.)

I am trying to get ready for my Women's Wellness Weekend I am supposed to leave for in about 2 hours. I am sort of packed up. I am not sure what I've gotten into, but they promise yoga and hiking, so it can't be all bad. My daughter went to the same place for science camp last year and she has been filling me in on which cabin I should try to get and what foods were good. They have their own garden and make meals from their fresh produce, so I should be able to stick to plan.

I feel like I have regained a bit of control over my sugar demons. Hurray!

I have been doing well on my objectives--few sweet treats, mindful eating, more veggies, always more veggies, and exercise. The rains have returned (with crazy winds that took down the top half of a redwood tree in my neighbor's yard!), but I am hoping to hike tomorrow. I have been doing some cardio and weight training at home. Even the cut in alcohol seems to be working so far, with the added benefit that I have been drinking more water.

The next thing I have to focus on is logging my food more regularly. I have been pretty lax about that lately, usually only getting part of the day's food entered. I am probably living in happy denial of the true total amount of calories each day, but I have a pretty good sense of when it's too much. I have been paying more attention to portion size, which helps. I know how easily those little buggers add up though and I should pay adequate attention to that.

It's always something...
