I finally set foot on the scale this morning for the first time in almost a month. Not good, but not too bad. I feel like I am doing the right things this week and I just need to continue and I will turn this around.
We had dinner out last night. It seems like I didn't eat that much. I stayed away from the bread basket (although my son was trying his hardest to tempt me!). I ordered the dish that included kale. :) No dessert, even for sharing. I was still surprised how quickly those numbers add up. I was reminded that restaurant meals are always more than I expect.
This morning, we are heading to the coast for a family hike. My hubby picked out a loop over 6 miles. I am a little worried that the kids are going to revolt 'round about mile 3! I am going to pack a lot of snacks and water. The hike should be beautiful, with redwoods and ocean views.

My head is in a good place this afternoon. I started the day off with a run. I don't go far and I don't go fast, but I can definitely feel the effort! Thankfully, my dog likes to stop to sniff & pee, so I get a moment here and there to keep my breath.
I turned down my hubby's plan to drop my daughter off for her activity and then go out to lunch. I skipped the trip and stayed home to eat my modest lunch of leftovers. It was tasty and I didn't eat too much of it, so I consider that a successful meal.
I am off to knock a few things off my to do list...

Started the day with a hike. I am pretty proud of that. I was actually quite reluctant to get going. Ever since the dog tangled with the rattlesnake, I have lost confidence for hiking alone with the dog. I have gotten back on the trail with friends, but that takes more organization. I have really been missing just heading out with Bosco when the spirit moves me.
I did a familiar trail. The beginning is steep, what my friend calls Heart Attack Hill, but I survived, admittedly with some huffing and puffing! The rest of the hike was pleasant. I was on high alert for snakes and kind of jumpy when there was rustling in the brush. Birds and lizards really make more noise than they should in the dry grass! I tried to reassure myself with the fact that if it was a mountain lion, I would not hear it! :) I did see a quail, one of the cutest members of the bird world, and that always makes me smile.
Having accomplished that, I am feeling good and ready to take on the day.

I have been working on getting more exercise lately, and that is going better. I have been running a few times. I got new Yoga videos yesterday and did the first one today. I went for a hike and I am hoping to hit the trail again tomorrow. Part of me keeps saying, this will all be easier once the kids get back to school, but it is not like they are the ones keeping me from exercising. That is the job of my laziness!
Yesterday and the day before were filled with extremely poor choices. Nothing I can do about that except for make today a better day. I logged my food for the first time in a while. I didn't really eat much today, but I'm okay with that. I tend to be a little overly enthusiastic at the beginning. I know I will find my balance soon.

We are going on a whirlwind road trip to see my brother's band play down south tonight. This is not the lark that driving hundreds of miles to hear good music was when I was young, but a much-discussed plan involving way too many variables like superchargers and conference calls, but I think we have it figured out. Because of all this over-planning, I do have a clear idea of where my meals will be coming from, so I can make informed choices on the road today.
I have been doing well with eating for the most part. I realized I was perhaps a little overenthusiastic in my vegetable gathering when I returned home this week, but that has prompted me to always be looking for ways to fit more veggies into meals. For example, the other night, we had spaghetti and meatballs, my daughter's welcome-home-comfort-food, for dinner. We didn't have noodles left, but some sauce and meatballs. For lunch the next day, I made some zucchini noodles to eat with the leftovers rather than cooking up pasta. Then I cooked up not only cauliflower but also asparagus to go with our salmon for dinner.
Besides walking the dog, I have not yet found my exercise mojo again. I will work on a plan for next week to help get that going again.
One day soon all of the pieces will come together...
