hi!

i'm from the uk and am trying to lose weight following my own 'diet'.

the reason that word is in quotation marks is that i feel like iti s less of a conventional diet, more me trying ot listen to my body and learn what it wants. currently i eat too quickly and too much, for the wrong reasons. i eat to deal with my emotions, rather than because i am hungry.

there is no timescale, and little exercise involved as i am too cash-strapped to afford a gym or expensive equipment. although i walk everywhere this is probably not enough (1-2 hours p/weekday on average) to make a difference ot my weight.

I`m desperate. What should I do?
i can't find the words to better what 'caged...' said, but i just wanted ot add that - although the truth hurts - i may be better for you in the long run i you work on how you are feeling, rather than how he is feeling.
it sounds trite, but its true - you are the only one that can make you happy. start doing that by working out what you want.
i can recommend finding a good doctor - and please do hunt around until you find someone that is good, and that you can talk to. it helped me.
also, an assertiveness class might help too.

i hope this doesn't sound too scary.

Use it as a tool to get you where you are. Then celebrate all the little victories.

i agree with sararay on this topic. to people who aren't used to it it may sound corny, but it works for me. either that or i ask myself if i really need to eat or if i am just bored/tired/lonely/etc.
my big problem is eating to have something to do, and so by asking this alone i am not only (possibly) cutting calories but helping the root of the problem.
it's not easy and somtimes i ask, find that i'm not hungry and eat anyway, but i know i am not hungry and i don;t beat myself up about the extra that i do eat.
i am good enough the resto f the time that it is still coming off (slowly). it will happen, but it may take a little longer, and if i get there and have conquered what made me gain in the first place i will be happier than if i had just lost all the weight without knowing why. (and i won't put it back on again!

apologies for the long message. i hope that helps someone.

How tall is everyone???
i'm 5'11-5'10 - i'm not 100% certain which.

i'm with nancy48 though: weighing in your birthday suit first thing on one set of scales. regardless of whether these scales are 'correct' or not, weighing in one way, at one time makes me suffer less anxiety. each scale is different and keeping it constant on one machine is as reliable as i think it is likely to get...
