Dont understand
Scales vary too. I actually took my digital scale around to different parts of the house and the number varied by 5 lbs at least. I thought, WTF? Anyway, I always take the most reasonable, lowest number and benchmark with that. I've lost 9 lbs. since I started at the end of June... So about a month. My goal is another 14 lbs, at which point I will assess the feasibility of losing another 8 lbs or so. At my age (6Cool, losing too much too fast triggers a survial response that could cause other things to happen. My advice is to take it slow and easy. Let your body do the work it needs to heal with good nutrition.

Wine is the problem
Same here. I was never much of a drinker, just occasionally. Then I started with the wine every night and the pounds compounded, lol! I'm restricting my calories to 1000, so the wine, among other things, had to go. I drink a carbonated water with lime every evening, while my hubby still has a glass of wine. Sometimes I simply have a cup of tea. It does kind of suck, but when I get down, I tell myself that losing a pound is far more worth that glass of wine!

Daily weights
I weigh everyday. It bounces up and down but then finally settles. That becomes the new actual weight loss that I work from. My goals are always in the 1 lb range for a solid loss, which I make note of and then move on. I don't record daily weight however, because the chart looks silly. I only record the solid loss. This keeps me sane.

Slowly but Surely
I'm just about a month now, with a solid loss of 6 lbs from my start at 162.5. It makes me quite happy to see progress towards my goal of 142 lbs. It's still been hard adjusting to a limited diet of 1000 calories or less, with hard emphasis on nutrient dense foods. At 68 years old, I simply don't metabolize as well as younger dieters. AND, interestingly enough my doctor told me to be careful. The reason for this is that when you are older, your body doesn't celebrate losing weight exactly. It tends to think that there is something wrong and it fights the loss. In other words, it's trying to survive. When you are young and carrying extra weight, it's the opposite. Your body wants to survive by shedding fat around your heart and other organs. I hope I'm explaining this correctly... it's still good to lose the weight, but it takes longer and you must make sure you're getting all the nutrients so your body doesn't freak out.
