Starting a 33-hour fast. Breakfast today and then only water/coffee/tea until tomorrow's supper. I am trying to do this every week so that I can fix my metabolism and still lose weight. At first I dreaded the thought of going without food; but now I find it quite easy. I started with intermittent fasting (16:8), and found that I really didn't notice that I was "fasting".

My biggest barrier to a full-on fast has been my bulletproof coffee (BPC). I adore it. I really do. When I did 30+ hour fasts in the past two weeks, I still had to have my BPC in the morning. I am trying to wean myself off sweeteners (much harder than I thought!!) and so the BPC sabotaged any real results I would have had.

I hope I can pull this one off as a true fast. I want to ensure that my body is fueling itself using my fat stores. I just need to stay strong tomorrow. Wish me luck. And strength. And resolve.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone!

Another week and another pound gone. Still feeling great and ready to take on the world. I had three BBQs to attend in the past three days - I think I over did on protein, but I will get that evened out today as I focus on my good, healthy fats. The BBQs were relatively easy - I took some bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers to help get me through the awkward moments of "why aren't you trying the potato salad?"

Work was challenging as we completed our fifth annual pancake breakfast fundraiser (benefiting Relay for life and the American Cancer Society). I stuck to my strengths and made 15 dozen scrambled eggs and 12 pounds of bacon. It was exhausting, but well worth it as the we raised a lot of money for a good cause. Three more fundraisers to go as we approach the actual Relay: 12 hours of walking on June 1-2. I will be exhausted afterward, but I do this every year to honor those I have lost and to celebrate that I am still here - alive and kicking.

This coming weekend will also be very physical - I will be working all afternoon on the 12th gathering the food brought in by the postal workers during Stamp Out Hunger campaign (benefiting our local food bank). Somewhere along the way, I will slip in my time at the gym and some yard work. Spring and Summer are always such busy times. I am glad I have the stamina to get it all done.

Have a great week FS!

29 April 2018

I started Keto on January 29, so this is my 3 month anniversary. I started at 198 lbs. and I am now at 177. In the past 8 weeks, I have lost 5-1/2 inches (I was too ashamed to measure in January after regaining some lbs.). My trainer did a body fat percentage and I have decreased it by 10 percentage points. According to those numbers, I am no longer obese, just overweight. I can't tell you how long it has been since I wasn't "obese" - maybe 20 years!

I feel so much better. Fewer headaches, fewer joint aches. More importantly are the changes in my mood and attitude. I can't believe the changes there! No more stress eating. I am happy, genuinely happy. Some may attribute this to just losing weight, but I know it is more. I just don't feel the ups and downs like I did. Could it be that my insulin hormone was governing every other hormone?

I have accepted that my years of yo-yo dieting have jacked up my metabolism. Calorie restriction is just not my friend as I neared only eating 1200 calories a day just to lose weight. It actually made me worse over time and made me less efficient with each subsequent diet. I was hungry almost all the time! I can't believe that I am eating at my RDI nearly every day and still losing weight and inches.

The most important thing for me though, is that my son who suffers from debilitating headaches from post-concussion syndrome has finally considered eating more whole, real foods in his diet. We will start slowly so he doesn't get keto flu, but he has done the research to realize that repairing his cells through food is probably the best thing he can do to heal. I pray it works. It has been so hard to watch him suffer these past 6 years.

Sorry for the long post, but I just had to share the changes I have enjoyed over the past 90 days. It is life changing. I just wish I had listened to Phil and all the other keto followers sooner!!
