Originally from England, I've been living in the States for 21 years. I'm 56, work part time and am also a Spiritualist Minister and part of NYC's first Spiritualist Church. Ordained in 2007, my life is EXTREMELY busy as I also see clients and am trying to build a business working from home as a Psychic Medium, Reiki Master and Seance Conductor.

I'm single with no kids, but have a wonderful supportive boyfriend, Jon, who is totally left-brained (computers) to my right-brain. I always tell people that together we make up a single brain! LOL! I've also been diagnosed with MS for 14 years and the secret for me is DEFINITELY keeping my weight under control, vitamins, plenty of water and exercise - "The Firm" DVD's work wonders for me, and really change the shape of your body.

Not loosing
Hi Jane:
Personally, even though I don't know how old you are, I'm not sure that 1400 calories is enough for you with all of that exercise. You are probably sending your body into starvation mode. This is what happened to me and it was only when I INCREASED what I was eating that I started losing weight, and I'm now in my 50's. Also, I found that blood tests for thyroid are not always the most accurate. There is something called "Wilson's Syndrome" which measures the thyroid via body temperature. Even though every regular doctor on the planet said my thyroid was "normal" it turned out that my body temperature was on the low side and stalling my weight loss. Supplements helped me kick start and now it is fine. I'm not sure, having left England 20+ years ago, how au fait the doctors might be with something like that but here in NY I found a Biochemist/Nutritionist to help as it is not something that is widely known. Make sure you eat enough protein, too, won't you? And healthy fats to balance.

Gaining and confused?
There are some VERY good and solid ideas from everyone on how to handle sugar cravings, Melissa. There is also a vitamin that you can buy that is specifically helpful in this regard (the name of it escapes me, right now. I agree with all of the tips above and if you read up a little on nutrition, you should find things that really work for you. For me, I am allowed one "free" day a week, and I try really to make the most of it, eating just about whatever and whenever I want without going completely crazy. So far, so good!
