*updated*I am a 32 yr old mother of 2 girls ages 15 & 12. I was a welder & my job took a lot of physical activity. I was going to the gym after work for a few hours 2X a week. Eating healthier & soda! I had dropped 40LBS in 3 months. However in 2011 I suffered an injury to my ankle. I tore several ligaments & a tendon. This had brought all my hard work to a grinding halt as I was focused on recovery. Over the last 2 years I have gained all of the weight I lost back PLUS some. I now have permanent limitations due to my ankle & have been placed as a secretary at work. Although I am very thankful to have a good job & boss that I like I do miss my welding career. I am also experiencing a lot of health problems associated with or aggravated by my weight. Aside from my ankle all of my joints are hurting. I have knee, elbow, shoulder, back & hip problems. I was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia in October 2013. That has been a new experience and it takes a lot of energy out of me that I never thought it would. I am asthmatic & reactive hypoglycemic. Currently I am at my heaviest weight. My goals are still the same & I want to remember where I was so I am leaving that part of my old bio below. I will NOT be detoured & I will NOT give up. It just might take me longer to get where I wanted to be.
*I had a hysterectomy April 29, 2010 & I am feeling much better physically then I have in years. SO now I am ready to get MOVING!!! My goal is to get back down to 175 which I know sounds like a lot to some people but it was when I was most comfortable in my body. At that weight I was a size 13 in junior’s jeans & I had just enough cushion so I could lie on the floor without my ribs getting sore! I have rather large bones & very muscular so if I reach a size 13 I will be happy even if I weigh more than my goal. Most of my weight is unfortunately in my gut....or my doughnut belly as I call it! So I need to find a way to work that off without injuring my back further.*

Reactive Hypoglycemia?
Thank you all for your replies. I am going to have to play around with it and see what will help but at least its a place to start. Guess I should research the whole simple vs complex carb thing. I am not sure if I can go vegetarian or not. I used to be REALLY anemic but I am not since the doc fixed the cause of that problem. I love meats and actually do better on them then without. It seams the healthier the foods I eat the more I am crashing. I had a salad for lunch today. Simple with a little cheese and a little taco meat. Mostly a ton of greens a few tomato slices and a sprinkle of black olives. I am now crashing again! UGH

I too have crashes like this a few times a week, I hate it!

Have you had any success on keeping from crashing? When I do everything I am "supposed" to do it just gets worse. I end up crashing nearly every meal/snack.

Reactive Hypoglycemia?

Have you been checked for an insulinoma? Seems to me that would be an obvious place for the medics to check. If you are really having that much trouble with low blood sugar, it stands to reason that it is because you are producing too much insulin. They need to check your insulin levels and find out if you possibly have a tumor on your pancreas which is causing you to make too much insulin.

They did a whole bunch of tests and they were able to rule out a tumor thankfully. I've had hypoglycemia since I was born. However when I started to retrain myself to eat healthy, drink water not soda, and eat the way you are supposed to. Smaller size portions and more frequent healthy snacks. That is when I started having a problem because I was eating more often and so I would keep crashing lower and lower. For several weeks I couldnt even get it to break 100 even at the end of the day. All I got told was to eat more protien and fiber. Eat more frequently and keep logging. It's hard to eat when you crash and feel like you are going to pass out everytime you do. Doubt

Reactive Hypoglycemia?
The doctors finally figured out I have reactive hypoglycemia. I've been trying to tell them for years that no matter what types of food I eat that afterwards I crash and feel crummy. This has resulted in years of bad eating habits because I will go most of the day without eating anything until I can be at home or somewhere safe to "crash". I've given up on taking my readings lately because I was getting so frustrated. No matter what I ate I couldn't get my blood sugar any higher than low 90's. Apparently I am hyper sensitive too because when most people would feel ok I feel bad. My ideal range was about 110-130 and I would feel normal and functional. It seems that the only way I have been able to keep my blood sugar up is a steady intake of sugar! Embarassed This is so frustrating as I have ended up back on soda after cutting it out. However after several months off the soda I was getting to low. I would crash after meals and drop near the 50s.

Is anyone else out there dealing with Reactive Hypoglycemia? I sure could use some help and support.

New Beginning
Congratulations Tinamarie! You are a survivor and I know you have what it takes to reach all of your goals. You are an inspiration. I am also starting over and getting back on track. My story was not so inspirational. Just an ankle injury and lazyness! LOL I am now at my heaviest ever and I feel every single LB in my joints and breathing. It is time. I would be happy to join you in your journy to support in any way that I can. Add me as a buddy and we can keep each other accountable. Wink Just remember YOU CAN DO IT! Smile
