What do you tell people who ask how much have you lost?
"I guess, if I am really honest, I am ashamed that I put on so much weight, that I had that much to loose."

This is really me as well. I'm happy that people are happy for me and supportive, but all I can think of is "Well, I'm the one who gained this weight in the first place..." I know, I know, I need to focus on my progress and how far I've come.

Anyway, I am a very private person, so I do feel a little uncomfortable telling people how much I've lost, but I usually will tell them the number (around 20) I've lost. I may also start saying that I've gone down a pants size, which I think I would be more comfortable saying.

You look good today :)
Thank you very much Cheryl and Candyann ^_^ And yes, it is very hard to try and lose weight when the people around you aren't. After my mom's surgery my dad, my brother, and I haven't had much motivation to make our own meals just for three so we've been just hittng fast food places multiple times a week (yikes D: ), but now that she's going to be able to start eating food again (albiet ground food only) I hope we're going to start eating at home again. We've been gradually making small switches as a family (Things with low fat/calories, wheat bread, and lots more fruit salad) and I hope we all continue.

I'm really worried about my brother. He's my twin so he's 18 as well, and he's about 250+ pounds and is the one that is pre-diabetic. He's a foot taller than me (hehe... we definitely don't look like twins) so he can hold more weight than my tiny 5 foot 1, but still... he's in danger. My parents finally stepped in and are taking him to a nutritionist now though (I'm thinking about starting going too) so hope for him with me that he'll start caring about his lifestyle a little more. I think we just need to focus on making it through our last 5 days of high school first, hehe.

In my Spanish class my teacher always would make us start out by turning to another student next to us and saying "Te ves bien hoy." Very Happy

Hi, my name is Jenny (but you can call me Fate, Jen, whatever; I'll respond to near anything :B ) and I am 18 years old. I decided it was finally time to start losing the weight I've been steadily gaining over the years, and I want to look and feel better going into college. Right now I am at 195 pounds, and I've always told myself I will NEVER go above 200--and now that I'm right on the borderline I realize that I've got to get a grip on things. This is the heaviest I've ever been; my average weight has been at 150 about.

We've had a lot of problems with weight in our family's history. My mother decided at about 370 pounds to get weight loss surgery, and so far she's lost nearly 100 pounds in one year. My uncle is diabetic, and my brother is pre-diabetic. Across the board my aunts and uncles are overweight (We live in Wisconsin... there's tons of beer bellies and just many football parties). I don't want to grow up like that, I'd love to just feel better about myself and not constantly be putting myself down each time I look in the mirror.

I always talk too much!! Hehe. Muchas gracias if you actually read all that. Smile I've been enjoying reading your stories and getting inspired by your photos, and I wish all of you luck on your weight loss goals. <3

I suppose quick facts about me! I love art, reading, writing, drawing, and music. I play clarinet and I would love to write a novel someday. I am going to college for English and I would love to get something in Spanish as well. =)

What was the 'lightbulb moment' that made you realize you needed to lose weight?
Like many others, many moments have led up to my desire to finally lose weight.

Over these past few years I've been steadily gaining weight as homework and the internet took control of my life. A few months ago, I went on vacation on a cruise and I pulled my favorite pair of shorts out to see how they'd look with one of my new shirts, and they didn't fit at all! They were a tad tight before but now they just don't fit at all, and it's a tad depressing. Sad One of my goals is to be able to fit into those again.

But even bigger is that recently my mother had weight loss surgery (Roux-en-Y gastric bypass) and seeing her in the hospital and now only being able to have liquids until she can use what's barely left of her stomach later; I has realized that I don't WANT that to happen to me. I am 18 years old and hoping if I start semi-early (I SHOULD have started years ago) then I will be able to add years to my life and just feel better about myself. Smile
