Switching from Atkins diet to the DASH diet formulated by NIH for reducing hypertension by reducing sodium intake. Weight loss comes by limiting calories.
Have to empty my cupboards and reshop!

Just wanted to let you all who have been so supportive of me know where I've been. I was discouraged at the lack of weight loss and deciding whether to go to calorie count diet when on 3/16 I fixed my cuppa coffee in the morning and blacked out. Awoke to find I could not breathe. Long story short, I had a miracle, managed to get to cell phone, dial 911 somehow and got to hosptial. Pulmonary embolism/saddle type. 99% fatality rate with these type. Although I 'coded' twice, they brought me back and broke up the clot. I'm in the 1% somehow. Once in hospital a cascade of events kept me there over three weeks with kidney trouble, strep in bloodstream. No prior symptoms except some occasional ankle swelling. Clot came from right leg. Blood thinners the rest of my life.
Lesson: if your legs ache, ankles swell, go get an ultrasound on your veins.
Lose weight and get all your bloodwork labs annually.
Doctors tell me not to try to diet now so am going to just eat healthy live food and get well.
Will check in occasionally and wish you all well. Get healthy. When you are gasping for what may be your last breath as I was, that chocolate bar is meaningless.

Am discouraged with the low carb route. just not losing so have decided to research weight watchers. Can't afford to join just yet so am switching to calorie counting but still eating healthy - it will also help financially. Atkins diet is expensive due to meat prices. Will give it a month and see how my mood goes.

Been really busy but still on the plan! I finally made that microwave 'bread' with the Golden Flaxseed meal and it is delicious! I wouldn't call it bread - it tastes/is textured more like cornbread, a mild cornbread. It's very filling and I could only eat half. I will definitely make it again. Also tried the original Atkins recipe for Revolution Rolls - not breadlike at all but more like popovers but flat. Put some sugar free pudding on one and it was a great dessert.

Bummer weigh in. Have to figure out what the heck is going on. Retaining fluid, and not voiding figure in for the last few days but, geez. Nighttime leg cramps - researched and found on Dr. Eades site the need for more sodium (but already retaining fluid?) and magnesium and potassium. And more water. Trying not to be too discouraged and will keep on....
