30 August 2016

Long time, no journal. Life has been freakishly busy. Short update: Doc has me on the Whole 30 diet until January. Its getting easier as I learn what I can and cannot have. Through this, I have discovered that I have a true dairy allergy- requiring 24-48 hours of Benadryl coverage in order to mitigate the reaction. Ingesting gluten gives me flu-like symptoms- which I already suspected. But after cleaning it out of my diet for 30 days, and then trying some again- WOW! That was miserable.
Still doing the gym 5 days a week, with very rare exceptions. Today was one of them....massive PMS migraine. Its a migraine on a marathon---40 hours and counting. I went to the gym yesterday -even with the migraine-hoping that a good hard workout might generate some happy endorphins that would help me overcome the misery. Worked for a while, but then wham!
House is coming along. With the exception of the big fireplace, there is no sign or smell of smoke damage from the fire. Drywall is complete, and the painter started today. I started working on the chocolate shop painting last week- so that will be my pet project. Once the paint is done, I can tile floors. I'd LOVE to have a functioning bathroom over there!!!! Farming has been a challenge. Rain seems to ruin the days we can cut hay and bale. But, we've got a short dry spell, so DH is going to start cutting the last massive field today. The calf stomped 90 feet of green beans in my garden, and gave the turkeys a clear path to destruction- eating the plants, then eating the tops off the carrots, beets and chard. The calf is now penned up in the "Time-Out" pen, awaiting the butcher later this fall. Turkeys are doomed as well. As soon as the kids start school- I will be butchering, and then canning the meat.
Well, off to medicate the migraine, and try to function. Blessings and best wishes to all!!! Annie

Still doing the Whole 30---on doc's orders. My BP has dropped slightly in the past 2 weeks.
Got all my labs back, and found that my thyroid is perfectly fine, but my iron level was dangerously low. And, that would account for my low-energy feeling much of the time. Omega 3's were in the same category of being extremely low, and one of my LFTs was through the roof. SO....taking the NOW Iron Complex, 3000mg of Omega 3's, and Milk Thistle, along with a glass of water with lemon first thing in the am. Supposed to stay on the Whole 30 through January when I get my labs redone. I did end up having a bit of bleu cheese on a salad at Culver's this past Tuesday. I got most of it scraped off to the side, but some stuck to the lettuce. Ended up with that darn swelling and itch in my throat for the next 48 hours. Since that was the only thing I ate that was verboten- as far as I can figure- that whole dairy thing might be the culprit. Time will tell.
But, I am feeling much better with the iron increase, and am still keeping carbs to a minimum- as best I can without starving. An occasional piece of fruit or half of a sweet potatoe now and then is about my limit. Hope you all are doing great! Have a blessed weekend!

Probably should qualify my food diary a bit. I got the Lo-Carb thickburger at Hardees for lunch after church today. No cheese, no ketchup, no mayo. Not sure if the standard entry for that includes the condiments and cheese or not.
Still feeling pretty darn good. Bought more canteloupe, apples and sweet potatoes at a produce stand this morning too. Our chickens are graciously laying more eggs to feed my poached egg frenzy each morning after the gym. So, no need to buy any. Nibbling away at my 23 quarts of strawberries we picked on Thursday. I canned some of the berries, made jam for the neighbors and family, and just kept some fresh for nibbling. I might try making a cantelope-strawberry smoothie with ice tomorrow. Seems like that could work.
In the meantime, working away at house cleaning. Have a blessed day, all!
