Keddie's Journal, 05 January 2017

Just over a year ago I made the decision to take on the Journey of weight loss surgery. My mother took this picture Easter of 2016. At the time I was 340 lbs. Now just 7 months after my surgery combined with disciplined eating and regular exercise I'm down an astonishing 125 lbs. My DEXA scan shows I have went from 46% body fat to just 22% in what seems like no time flat. Although I am tempted to WANT to eat more than I should I use my surgery as a tool to let me know when it is time to stop. I still eat 2000-2200+ kcal a day but I know this will continue to be a journey for the rest of my life. To anyone looking to lose weight in 2017 I promise you can do it. My tips to you are simple.

1. Weigh and log EVERYTHING you put into your mouth.
(I weigh it down to the gram and log it every day)
2. Be aware of what you're eating to make smart choices.
(Eat high protein foods, fruits, and vegetables. Not chips and cookies)
3. Weigh yourself daily and log it
(I know this is a hot topic but it's about being accountable.)
4. Get your RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) checked
(You don't know how many kcal you can eat unless you know how much you burn)
5. Stay active
(My journey has been tough filled with many hours on the bike find something you like and do it)

Good luck to everyone in 2017.

Nice work. Now that you're on the other side do you feel like you could have accomplished the same thing without the surgery?

I wish I could say yes but I have lost 80+ lbs 8x times in my life and always gain every bit back and more eventually. I hope the ghrelin reduction due to the stomach surgery combined with the feedback upon eating too much will help me keep it off for the rest of my life. When they tested my ghrelin numbers it was 4-6x what is normal which chemically was telling my brain eat eat eat. Now when I pass a holiday bowl filled with M&M's I don't feel compelled to take a handful every time I see it.

Awesome job!!! I completely agree with logging EVERYTHING whether it's a veggie or a snack cake 😉 I could be okay guesstimating IF it's my regular food but personal accountability goes a long ways.
