Day 17
Weight 199 (down .8 lbs. since yesterday)

Saturday!!! Feast Day!!! Time to celebrate my mother's birthday!!! It is actually on Monday but she is going to spend the week at a friend's house so I won't see her on her actual birthday. Which is okay, because we sort of like to celebrate birthdays all month long around here. She picked out a delicious looking cake yesterday and we have 1/2 fat ice-cream to go along with it today. I would like to take her out to breakfast this morning but don't know if that will work out. I can always make her breakfast here that is just as delicious though ... and much more cost effective!! LOL!!

199 even today. I did a very low carb day yesterday ... ate a bunch of protein. I have no clue if the drop is related to that or just because it was ready to drop. Guess I'll have to experiment again with that idea ... just so I can figure it out!!

Mom and I had a great time yesterday. I loaded the car up with our garbage and our first stop was at the dump to get rid of our trash!! Love getting rid of trash (remember we live in the boonies ... not trash service way out here!!!). I had popped in some Christmas CD's to listen to on our drive and had her favorite cued up ... Joe Diffie's Mr. Christmas. We both love that album. So ... we drove, singing along with Joe ... lots of fun.

Then we shopped our feet off, finding a few treasures for stockings, and picking up a few bargains at a couple grocery stores as well (butter for $1.88 a lb, eggs $.99 a dozen, litehouse salad dressing $1.99 a jar, to name a few!!!) I was pooped!!! But we had fun together.

Not sure what is on the agenda for today, other than cake and ice-cream and making date nut loaf!! I've taken a London Broil and some chicken breasts out to thaw because I have no clue what her desires are for dinner and some of it depends on how hubby is feeling. LOL!! He just asked me while looking at my "thaw out selection", "what are we doing here?" He thinks he might be feeling better so we'll see ... if we shall go out for dinner ... breakfast ... who knows!!!

Today I am grateful for ...

... still being able to enjoy the company of my mother

... 199 EVEN!!!!

... I was able to get my car going again after spinning out on our very slick private road

... so many buddies visiting me yesterday to whoop and holler with me about finally breaking under 200 again ... THANK YOU!!!!

... THREE (yes 3) more days off work this week!!! I'm lovin' it!!!

BMI says I am still "overweight" at 28.8 according to my new scale. My body fat percentage is "very high" at 41.6 (not quite sure how I bring that down). My skeletal muscle percentage is in the "normal" range for my age at 28.8. My visceral fat level is "normal" at 9. I need to try this out in the evening ... like I did when I first brought it home. My body fat percentage at 4 pm was 38.7% which is still "high" but better than 41.6% ... well at least my visceral fat is "normal" .... right? Okay, I told myself I wasn't going to fret about this so I am stopping right NOW!!! These are simply additional tools in my toolbox. I am doing well. I am progressing. I feel GREAT!!! My blood pressure is good and all the lab results from my blood work. No worries. Just continue along the journey.

Have a wonderful day buddies!!! Remember to practice kindness towards yourself and gratefulness, there is always something to be grateful for!! I'm off to start chopping nuts, mixing up date nut loaf, sorting laundry, perhaps a little exercise ...

Oh ... by the way I did my Pilates DVD yesterday!!! It has been maybe a month or so since I've done it I think. I was pleased that it didn't kill me!!! I love that DVD. I love how it makes me feel. Now I must re-introduce myself to my kettle bells!!! And then come up with a good rotation schedule of elliptical, Pilates, and kettle bells.

Okay ... I really am leaving now. LOL!!! Love you all!!!

I LOVE the weigh in report on days like this!!! LOL!!

Happy Moose Mom birthday!! Sounds like yesterday was great fun and today will be more of the same. Congratulations on the new low. I'm still grinning from ear to ear about it. I'm sure smarter people will respond to your journal about the bodyfat percentage, but I have it in my head that building muscle lowers your bodyfat (even though it weighs more than fat and therefore may increase your weight.). With cardio, we lose fat and muscle; with strength training we build back the muscle. I'll check back later to see the other answers to this paradox.

I think you are right. Which means I need to do MORE Pilates and MORE kettle bells .... and LESS elliptical??? I'll wait to hear more from others too ... somehow I think someone might have an opinion ... LOL!!

Moose- my trainer has said...and so far it is working. A short cardio (eliptical usually 5-10 min) to get your heart rate up. Then at least 1/2 hr. of strength training..focused on core so it looks like we are loosing weight and our pants get smaller. Then as much cardio as you can stand...cardio after strength training burns more fat than straight cardio. Also, after strength training you have up to 24 hrs. for this fat burning thing to work, so if you can't fit it in after your weight training, then do cardio in the morning to still get increased fat burning.

Oh...also the day before training, keep carbs as low as possible. Then during the workout you will be burning fat not the sugar in your blood. You'll probably get a bit nausious....but oh the pay-off in lbs. lost the next day! Keep hydrated!

I think your elliptical is important too, Carol. I wouldn't do one to the exclusion of the other. I usually do them on different days but, if doing them together, I've heard strength before cardio definitively.  So how was the birthday celebration?

199! Nice! And how nice it is that you got the DVD spinning again, especially after realizing how good it makes you feel. Well done on all counts - and happy b-day to MOM!

Sounds like that scale does EVERYTHING but tell you what to eat! Does it reach out and slap your hand when you reach for a Christmas cookie? If so, that's the one for me! How much does one cost, if I might ask...as much as a treadmill or elyptical? CouldI sluff off on the exercise and rely on my scale to keep me in line! BTW, 199 IS A LOVELY SIGHT TO SEE! GOOD FOR YOU! NOW, ENJOY YOUR DAY WITH MOM!
