So my weight loss stalled. I looked back at my eating and noticed one very telling thing. My fat% has dropped and my carb has inched up. Not by a lot I am till well under net 40 carbs but quite a bit more than I was.
For me the vegetarian low fat diet doesn't work. I can maintain forever but I cant LOSE, and especially not the 2 lbs a week I was doing. Funny isn't it? Too many veggies too little fat and whammo, loss stops.
Everyone's different but clearly LCHF works for me at this point in my life.
Time to pay more attention.
182.0 lb Lost so far: 31.0 lb.    Still to go: 52.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Hope your insight gets you back on weight loss track. I've had several people try to convince me that vegetarian is the way to go but I'm of the mindset that if it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm losing well with what I'm doing and this is a first for me so I'm not ready to change a thing. If I stall then I'll try something different to shake things up, but until then it just isn't going to happen. Happy journey and continued success.

The macros are a delicate balance, aren't they? I think the key (based on what I have read) is higher fat, moderate protein, and lowest carbs.

You are doing good and yes it is amazing how some things work, I am having a hard dropping anything at around 1500 calories a day

That's the way it seems to work for me too. If I can keep the carbs around 25g and up the fat, pounds seem to go away. Too many carbs and they stop or climb back on, even when my calories are under 1500. I'm not too surprised. We've been sold the low fat/no fat mantra by the "diet" companies and the government for years. All the while the country kept getting fatter and fatter. My wife, bless her heart, just can't seem to let the low fat idea go. She exercises EVERY day, trims the fat off of everything, eats low fat crackers and rice cakes, and weighs more than she ever has. For a while I ate what she ate (okay, no rice cakes...blech!), and I soon weighed the most I'd ever weighed. I finally said this has to end, now! I quit starving and started eating fat. Low and behold, I am finally losing weight. I can't blame it on my wife though. Our health insurance "wellness" program recommended a diet for me that was so full of carbs it was unbelieveable. I tried it for one week and felt bloated, miserable, and gained five pounds! Some diet! I've never understood the whole vegetarian concept anyway. Humans are omnivores. We have canine teeth for a reason. Anyway, glad you have it figured out, Nic. Congrats!

Don't QUIT! you are doing well and its good that you can recognize where the problem lies and try and correct it...am in the process of assessing diet as well and it helps.

We need fat to lose weight - just not a ton of it. Switching to a more well rounded diet will get you back on track.

the same thing happens to me, i need to really be sure to keep my fat up or i gain weight. to help me, i've started taking 2 Tbsps of coconut oil a day; one at breakfast the other mid-afternoon. works like a charm!

I just had the epiphiny today about my %s. I need less fat and more protien. I'm good with the 20g of carbs, give or take 3 or 4gs. Berley, how do you ingest the coconut oil? So far, I've basically been using it as a moisturizer on my hands & face. Working wonders I might add. I did the oil pulling with it and some cooking. Do you put it in coffee?

sailorg: most people make bullet proof coffee (bpc), but i don't drink coffee and didn't like it in my tea. so at first i melted it and mixed it in with something else. but then i tried it straight out of the jar and it was surprisingly good all by itself; not "oily" feeling at all. so now i just scoop a tablespoon out and lick the spoon! i shoot for macros of around 70% fat, 20% protein, 10% carbs. the coconut oil definitely makes it easy to reach my fat.

When I tried the oil pulling with it, it grossed me out until it melted. But it was very tasty. More so than EVOO. But with oil pulling you dont swallow it. I might just try it.
