Has anyone ever felt nausea after eating salad/ lettuce? I ate a simple salad with romaine lettuce and carrots yesterday and suddenly got nausea after the last bite.

Fruits and veggies contain antinutrients, especially when raw, that effect some more than others. Dr. Chaffee on YouTube explains this.

Thanks Zenus. I’ll look him up. It’s happened on and off a few times. But not with lettuce

It could be the pesticides. Wash it good. It takes a lot of chemicals to make the veggies look that good.

My body doesn’t like iceberg but romaine seems to be ok. Could be the pesticides like Supergainz said or the anti nutrients like Zenus said.

The dressing can make me nauseous. Too much vinegar can be a problem but so can too much oil or low quality oil.

Could be early enzymatic browning and the synthetic stuff that helps prevent browning of fruits & veggies.

Yes, but for me it was food poisoning both times.

Something that you may not be aware of many times that we think that we get food poisoning from food it is not the food but rather the ice from the ice machine. Always be aware that if you're going to drink a fountain drink that you are very suspicious of the ice shoot and look into the ice machine. As a person who works in a gas station I can tell you that most ice machines and fountain machines are filthy. Be very circumspect of fountain nozzles when you get fountain drinks look around the nozzle itself to see if there's any patina or stain if there is avoid the nozzle in addition the ice shoot should not have any discoloration on either the shoot or the lip on the bottom of the shoot also if you look inside the ice machine there should not be any discoloration on the ice machine itself if it is pink or orange or brown that is slime mold. All of these things are very common. Do not be surprised if you find them in your local establishments. Don't believe me take a look when you're at your local gas station or fast food establishment...

@Leah... IKTR!!! ...and tea urns. Ugh... They're the worst! I worked in restaurants for years & years, so I know what you're talking about.

I never have. I wash all my raw fruits and veggies in lots of water with white vinegar. Don't know if that really helps, but I find it does extend the life of some, especially berries, so may eliminate some bacteria.

Lettuce is cupped leaves that collect dirt and bacteria while growing, it needs to be washed thoroughly after the leaves are detached. I'm sure you have heard the stories of the migrant workers defecating in the fields while harvesting crops. Make sure you soak them then rinse them several times under running water to get everything off. USDA makes allowances for so many micrograms of rodent offal in our foods, nasty but true. If this has happened a few times, check your source for the foods.

Lol Leah that would be any restaurant or any place that runs for a long time.. I’ve worked at pizza places when I was younger.... and let’s just say I never order from dominos. Sometimes ignorance is bliss

Thanks everyone. I’m guessing if needed to be washed better. It’s prewashed lettuce and always wash it again when I prep but maybe not as well as I thought
