Debbie Cousins's Journal, 04 August 2022

Well, yesterday would have been a perfect day to go OFF my diet plan and to drink EXTRA Diet Coke! My grand daughter (ELEVEN!!!) was caught sexting - vulgar lewd stuff. She is grounded for a month from her phone and computer. But, as soon as she got here to go to the pool, she opened my laptop when I was out of the room. I reprimanded her, and she acted like she didn't know anything about the grounding. Then, when I went out of the room again, she opened the tablet! It was very disheartening to see this lack of respect for me and her outright rebellion!

But, I stayed within my calories, and I didn't drink any extra DC. WHEW! Close one, though. Those donut holes were really calling me!

This morning, I was down from 248.6 to 248.2, PTL. I'm not used to this SLOW weight reduction, but I'm TRYING to be satisfied with it, knowing that it IS progress. So far this week, I've been in the 1,500's every day (down from 1,700's before that). I'm still able to get in my fruits and veggies, but it's a challenge keeping my calories that low.

Today, I'm making Chinese Casserole (at my husband's request). There's nothing really "Chinese" about it except that it is supposed to have soy sauce in it (but we use Worcestershire). I'm trying something different than I've ever done. Instead of using the ground beef, I'm using ground Jimmy Dean sausage. We started making that substitution in our homemade spaghetti sauce, and we don't know how we ever ate it any other way. The challenge will be to not use too many Asian Rice Noodles on top. A half a cup is 130 calories!

I was awakened at 4:15 by a text from my son that they haven't gotten their EBT food benefits, which were supposed to be loaded on 8/1. They've called every day, but haven't been able to get ahold of the case worker. I guess I'll need to give them some grocery money, or go get some stuff and take to them. Sigh. Who says you only have to take care of your children until they're 18! My daughter is 37 and my son is 34, but we still end up "having" to help them both in some way or another each month. Next month, my son is getting much-needed glasses, and his Medicare only covers like $75 of the cost of the lenses, and he needs anti-glare because of severe headaches.

And, there may be more expenses coming (please God, NO!) The guy who lives with them, Josh, has just had his cancer reoccur, and he has to have radiation and chemo which will mean he misses a lot of work. He pays in full the rent and utilities each month (in exchange for having the whole upstairs of my son's house to himself).

OK, well, I've got all my bemoaning off my chest. I know that some people don't think things like this "belong" in a Journal entry. But, it's MY Journal, and I can write whatever I want to, and it's up to each person whether or not they want to read it. Things like this DO affect dieting and weight loss, and many people can relate to the effect of STRESSORS on their success or failure. So far, thank the Lord, I've been able to hold it together. There comes a point, though, where ONE piece of straw is the one that breaks the camel's back. I can feel the straw getting heavier.

Hey Debbie, tell your son about Zenni Optical. you can "build your own" glasses and they are way cheaper. He can get 2 for $75! Just needs the prescription and you can customize the lenses with tints, anti glare, scratch resistant, etc.. www.Zenni.com

Thanks, Pixie68. Nice to hear from you - haven't seen you around since I came back in late June. I will definitely pass the word along to my son.

Zenni.com is a good place to look for glasses. Another place to go would be Vision 4 Less. They run a lot of 2 for the price of one sales on glasses. But you might have to pay extra for tinting and anti glare.

So sorry about your problems. You are right these are especially disheartening, and they definitely affect our eating. As you know I have vented here on FS, and occasionally received push-back but most say go ahead and vent. I'll be praying.

I totally agree that these stresses in life can cause weak moments. God is good. I'm sorry to hear about your grand daughter. You are doing great, it's not easy. Deep breaths & lots of prayer💕🙏🏼

Debbie- it IS your journal and writing it down helps. Stress comprises a health journey for sure. Anyway, you feel like a friend- we’ve shared our stories over the years; things that we cannot or would not share with our off line friends. So hugs and blessings. Congratulations on avoiding the extra DC!

Journal away my friend, if it bothers someone that's their problem, not yours. You can password protect access to your computer and tablet. So sorry about your granddaughter, children are exposed to do many dangerous and inappropriate things these days.

regarding the laptop unauthorized use, there is a switch on the internet box. So if you wanted you could switch off the internet while she is on restriction, and or change the password on the lap top LOL

I think this site can be a great outlet because I feel most overeating has an emotional component. Sometimes the support you get or don't get can make it or break it. Hope things get better for your family.

You are a good grandma for upholding the punishment that your granddaughter's mother gave her. My mom seems to think my kids are so precious and should never get in trouble for anything. It's frustrating because some of the stuff she got mad at me for doing when I was a kid she thinks it's ok now if my kids do it. I hope things get better for your granddaughter. 11 seems really young for that behavior. My oldest became rebellious at 16 and unfortunately is still going down the wrong path at 18.
