Praise the Lord, for He is good! I was able to get my car out of the shop today. Even though there had to be a LOT of stuff done to it (water pump, thermostat, serpentine belt, wheel bearing, radiator flush, heater coil cleaning), it didn't cost as much as we were afraid it was going to. $500 instead of $800-$1,000, which we were expecting.
But, the praise continues! A couple of weeks ago, my husband performed a funeral. He doesn't charge anything for doing funerals, but usually people will give him something for doing them - $25, $50, $100 - probably the most he has ever gotten was $200. The family gave him a card last week, but he hadn't opened it. After we got the $500 quote, he opened the envelope. There was a nice Thank You note inside, and SIX hundred dollars! As I said, God is good!
Yesterday, I did a lot of cooking. I've been taking meals to the newly-widowed neighbor (a member of our church), and I try each ween to send a little something to my husband's mother (she doesn't like cooking for just one anymore since his Daddy died). So, yesterday I made string beans, parsleyed potatoes and chicken casserole for sharing. I can hardly wait for lunchtime so I can have another helping of each. Through these 40+ years living in Virginia, I've become quite a good Southern cook (or so I'm told!)
I've started adding some fruit into my "diet." I'm not going without anything - just adding the fruit, for some more nutrition. Today there were some very large green grapes which are very sweet, and they were on sale for $1.29/pound. I also splurged on a couple of Asian Pears. If you've never had one, you're missing out. Just peel them and slice like an apple. Tastes like a pear, but with the super-crunchiness of an apple. Yumm.
Okay, I'm making myself hungry. Well, not really - I'm just making myself want food.
