Firefly_Faerie's Journal, 05 May 2021

Ok. This past week or so has been Murphy’s Law personified of personal natural disasters. I’m sick as a dog (doctors said it’s either the flu or covid, I’m getting treated for the first and tested for the latter as we speak), it’s finals week, the sickness has made me lose my appetite *completely*, I’ve had to take two days off of work (unheard of for me), AND my home life has taken a marked downturn. For all intents and purposes, this week has been trash. But that’s the bad part lol

All of that aside, and despite some of it, I’m still determinedly marching along towards my own goals. I sought leniency and accommodations from my professors where I needed them, I kept up my intake to the level I had set myself (even when I had to physically force myself to eat), I knew when I had to ask for time off and did so, I’m still doing my best to protect myself at home, I engaged in the self care that was seeing to an illness I would have previously tried to ignore, AND I’m still losing weight. I’d say that’s a net positive.

So I’m not beating myself up this week for slow progress. Slow can still be remarkable

When I was working on my undergrad, I woke up one morning with the flu. I trudged off like the walking dead to my 8 a.m. sociology midterm in sweats and no bra, fighting the massive headache and urge to puke. Got a D on that test. I have never missed an opportunity to get my annual flu shot since. For your sake, I hope it's just the flu and not Covid!

Perfect. Truly excellent work. Simultaneously giving oneself a break, treating oneself with kindness, and remaining committed to one's standard of performance is Pro Tier. Rare. Nicely done.

It does sound like a tough week but it also sounds like you’re doing all the right things for yourself. Hope you feel better and whether it’s flu or covid that you recover quickly.

My concern is your long term success, safety and happiness hinges on having support, peace and love at home. If you don't have that currently, I pray that is something you are working to change. Even if that means relocation. You matter! You deserve to be happy, and hopefully you're able to make the external changes to support your happiness and long term health the same way you've made the internal changes.
