59Carol's Journal, 12 October 2019

This is looking good - lost my modest gain from last week and have dropped more besides! I was quite conscious of my food choices this week as I really did not want the trend upwards to continue.

This week has been all about being in the kitchen! The young man who died had planted a huge garden as the couple always did. The family is living an off grid relatively cashless lifestyle. This year he had planted a surfeit of carrots. The plan was to pickle them. His wife is not a 'canner' but rather excels in drying their harvest. So it was decided that I would do the pickled carrot canning. I spent 4 hours washing the tiny carrots and then another 7 hours pickling them. In the end I had 52 jars! What a marathon. However I found it therapeutic to know I was helping. Many other people in our community helped take off the garden harvest (giant job) and with the butchering of the farm animals (another big job). I am proud that our community is willing to give of their time, labour and expertise.

Today my family is celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving. The challenge this year is that I have: two people following keto, two people following a lower fat plan, 2 people who are vegetarian and three people who don't have any restrictions! The menu plan has ended up to be fairly extensive so that everyone will have a full rounded meal in the eating plan of their choice! I expect leftovers and then some. This means that I began food prep two days in advance. Today I just have the turkey (and stuffing) and the homemade buns left to do. Everything else will be warmed up at supper time.

After today I will assess what I need to do next on my long to do list! There are many more projects in my immediate future.

Thanks, LZenn. I know if I eat appropriately that the trend goes in the right direction. I try to not let the peaks and valleys affect me in the sense of getting on the roller coaster of feeling either wonderful or awful based on the scale. It is all about the the general trend and the monitoring of what I am eating on a day to day basis.
