BritLC's Journal, 23 February 2019

Tonight was my first attempt at making low carb bread. Doesn't look the best, but tastes good. I am new at this so trying to find what works. This is basically my first full week with VERY little carbs and all I can say is I want BREAD! I have been feeling a little run down and had a headache or too. hopefully that passes soon. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

The headache and tiredness are because low carb is a diuretic. Drink some full sodium broth or put soy sauce on something and it will go away.

Low carb is very hard the first week or so but I promise,IT WILL PASS!! First I will say I frickin LOVE bread and ice cream more that my kids ( well sometimes )!! I have been on Keto since Aug 2018 and the first week was hell,it's called the KETO FLU! As Dee said, stay hydrated, very important Here are a few tips I've learned, hope it helps??!! 1- Bone broth you can get this at almost any grocery now very good for you ( do not buy low sodium broth -the idea is to replenish salts lost 2- Keto is very low carb ( under 20 a day ) I know crazy but I have lost 42 pounds in 6 months and after the first week it got much easier!! If you can stay under 40 you will loose weight, slower but easier. 3- With low carb you have to up your fat so you burn keytones instead of just the food you eat. I know it all sounds crazy for someone, like me,who has been doing low cal,low fat all her life! All I'm saying is too do some research into it. There are a ton of resources and Facebook and instagrm stes to help even if you don't go full keto! GOOK LUCK

Kelleymariep, my husband and I have been trying for two months to go low carb and we haven't lost anything. What kind of things have you eaten?

What have you had Meemaw8? The key is to eat low carb under 20 net carbs as kelleymariep says.

Meemaw, if you log your foods and share it, we can help you out with suggestions. Two biggest mistakes I see are 1: too high on carbs. 2:too low on calories (never try low carb and low fat together)

@Meemaw8, @kelleymariep -- I've found that I enjoy eating "real" LCHF/keto foods much more than trying to find "substitutes" for high-carb foods I *no longer choose to include* in my diet. DietDoctor.com has *extensive* LCHF and keto food lists, menus, recipes, and menu plans. You'll find great ideas there.

[CONTINUED] Also, making the transition from the "SAD" (standard American diet) is *much* easier if you start with LCHF. Cut your daily total carbohydrates gradually, first to 100g/day and then to 75g, then to 50g. Evaluate your weight loss rate at each level.

[CONTINUED] If you are obese, or have been obese for a long time, you may be quite insulin-resistant, or even a T2 diabetic. In that case, reducing total daily carbs to 30, 20, or even 10 grams may be necessary in order to switch from glucose-burning (fueled by dietary carbohydrate) to fat-burning (fueled by stored and dietary fat).

I'm just starting out here. I eat a lot of eggs, mostly boiled. Lean meats. No bread, but 100% Whole wheat. I eat a lot of tuna. Almond milk with my whey protein shakes. No pasta. No sweets, cakes, cookies. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Thank you Dee_T, Miraculum, I will try that.

Read all you can and hunt down qualified video sources. "The Obesity Code" and "The Diabetes Code" by Jason Fung, M.D., and his YouTube videos are fantastic. Ken Berry, M.D., has several great YouTube video series, too.
