Snowwhite100's Journal, 03 January 2019

The group "No Junk Food for Thirty Days", doesn't seem to have anyone else active. Is there anyone else that would like to join me? It's perfect timing. I'm not sure about some of the parameters. If you join, what would you like included? Or should each of us just decide what is best for ourselves? Since I am trying to adapt to Keto, maybe even the little gravy I had on my meatloaf yesterday at the hospital (where my husband is) would be a no no. Somehow, with the stress of his severe pneumonia, I'm leaning toward being kind to myself. I was cold and it was great having something warm and sitting in the sunshine for a few minutes, warming up. After 18 hours fasting, even hospital food tasted great. I even licked a piece of fresh pineapple just to get a little flavor, (I love it so) but didn't eat any. Each night I come home near midnight so am glad I happen to have a ham here to take some with me the next morning. I made some cold slaw with whipping cream, but I don't really like it, it's just too rich. I need to look up some Keto recipes. Maybe my husband will get out tomorrow.
It doesn't seem fair my weight would be up with only 780 calories and fasting almost 18 hours yesterday. Yes, I eat too much protein, but I was hoping all that fasting would off-set it. Of course it's okay, and I'm doing all this more for health than weight, but I would like to reduce my belly. That I've lost 2 3/4 inches in height with age has made me more "squat".
Fasted 19 hours today. Husband yelling at me today, in hospital no less. I didn't unplug something fast enough.

moustrap80 Hi there, thank you for replying. I found "No junk food for one month" under Groups, but didn't realize the last post was in 2012. If you join there and people see something is happening, maybe others will join us. Draglist said he doesn't join challenges but will follow along on journals. That brings up one of my questions: do we just chat on our own journals or on the group site, which with each comment, looks like it says we are starting a new subject. No, no, I don't expect you to know, since you are new. I joined Dec 10th and am just learning my way around. Here's hoping you get this message. I "clicked" to follow you. If you don't respond, I can sent you a private message at your site. I'll find you, never fear. This will be fun, sharing what we think is junk food. I can't be perfect and don't expect you to be either. I had a little gravy tonight at the hospital where my husband is, think he is getting out tomorrow. I don't think a little gravy is junk food, but I must admit, whenever we eat Chinese food, I'm up a lb the next day, and I think it is the sauce. I eat no rice or egg rolls, or noodles. But I am still up a lb or 2 the next 2 days. If I get too compulsive, I'd go crazy. Of course we'll agree on sweets. Carbs are an individual issue. I'm trying to do Keto which is very strict, but I'm not making the 20 carbs daily yet, and I eat too much protein. But I still am heading toward Keto, because I believe it is the one I will get the best results that I want. I have spent many years yo yo dieting, and my health is at stake. I have many health problems and am now pre-diabetic. Please respond if you get this. I don't understand how all this works.

Draglist Thank you for responding. For you to follow the journals: would that be on my own journal, or on the group site? I am surprised to see the last comment on that group site was in 2012. I wanted a challenge on sweets, but junk food is more general and may vary person to person. I have lots of questions, but I think it is in the eye of the beholder. By the way, I see you welcoming people and I want to commend you for your time and effort. Thank you. Will you get this message????

Be kind to yourself without the comfort of junk food. Take breaks from your husband’s room. Every hospital has a chapel where u can sit in silence and gather your strength. I did this while helping my SIL, who was young and dying from cancer. Go to the gift shop and browse... maybe even buy a cute item for yourself... a stuffed bear... a cute tea cup...something that brings joy ...a smile... when U look at it. I just began KETO, too. This is my first full week and I have more energy and began losing already. I did the hospital vigil with a newborn son until he as almost 10 years old...on and off...Stress demands quality food. I am no expert, but I would think fasting wouldn’t be good under these conditions. Take a lot of olives and cheese to eat. Wishing u the best. Joani

Have been in your exact situation with 3 family members multiple times in the last 5 years. Wish I had known about the following resources at the beginning. If you like coffee and can get to some while you're at the hospital, Bulletproof has travel packs of their mix for Bulletproof coffee (a little pricey but has been what kept me on the wagon at hospitals and when I travel). They also have great collagen protein bars (the vanilla shortbread is to die for and I'll choose it every time over chocolate which is saying something). Quest has some protein bars with good fat content but you have to be careful since some have sucralose (not a pretty substance when it gets in my tummy) but the stevia ones are good. Coleslaw is pretty adaptable to keto. I use real mayo, a little stevia, red rice wine vinegar, salt, pepper, and a touch of garlic and onion powder to taste. Sorry I don't have a recipe for the dressing but I'm an eyeball and taste cook 😉. Also, keep lots of water on hand. buying a pretty inexpensive water bottle with a built in filter was another one of my health savers during this time.
