Buffy ?, Bunny says drinking alcohol at night will give you a high reading in the morning. She says very tops for norm should be well below100. l had no idea about that kind of stuff only because our has gotten Diabetes and he had a open wound on his foot that wouldn't heal because he drank like a fish and his reading were like 250..Bunny said he's going to lose his leg from the knee down, so l had a family meeting with him and his wife, l told what Bunny said and he thought he could be the facts, in two wks time his foot got gangrene off went that part of his leg. What a shame he traded alcohol for his leg.now supposedly he's smarten up.Time will he's down to one and a halve legs now. This latter story has no connection to you at all Darling.l just threw it in because of the effects what high BS would do.but my long winded ? was just something to maybe write off on your check list as a possible. P.s. You said you like the wine something !😁

Thanks murph 👍Yes my blood sugar is weird I had wine and starchy potatoes and the next morning my blood sugar was 78 but some days fasting 110 kinda weird I don't want diabetes so I'm glad I stopped eating sugar when I did mostly my fasting is around 98 but I'm glad I've been keeping track Better to catch diabetes sooner than later ...

Thats what woke me up Buffy, lost my oldest brother to diabetes several years ago. First his legs then his heart. My waking is 72 at bedtime in the 80's I reversed it and ended all meds in December first the diabetes then the acid reflux then the blood pressure.

My sister-in-law's amputation woke me! When I feel frustrated with my progress, I just look at pictures of her gangrenous feet! According to Dr. Fung, my "high" morning numbers are the result of the liver flushing stored glycogen. My morning bg hovers between 100mg and 120mg. I have not checked my A1c since I started keto.

So moogle you think my blood sugar being a little high is stored glycogen maybe from my low carb diet in on ...not diabetes ?.... ...

That was my take-away from this and other similar articles: https://www.dietdoctor.com/the-dawn-phenomenon If you are not putting sugar in, then high blood glucose must be coming from storage.

Please be careful with always assuming high fasting blood sugars (am) are the Dawn phenomenon. The body can only process so much protein at a time - up to 10% of your Protein intake can be immediately broken down and made into sugar. Also 'when' you eat can be just as important as what you eat. I've struggled with this for months - as a diabetic - I had to adjust what I eat and when that wasn't getting the results it should, I had to look at when I was eating certain things. If I eat something protein heavy (a piece of meat with 0 carbs) close to bed time my blood sugars are high in the morning - I'm better off eating a couple of grape tomatoes - even with the higher carb count.

One of the reasons I say this is because it can lead to a false sense of security. I know it did for me. I had to step back and take a hard look at what I was doing that was contributing to the situation. It was hard not to get defensive - even with myself! Realistically I was eating when I wasnt really hungry (usually I was tired - which makes sense - I crave food for energy when I'm tired). It took a while but I finally figured out that my main intake has to be at least 10 hours before I go to bed or my blood sugars run within normal range for fasting (below 100) but still high (too close to 100) for what I eat. My dinners tend to be about 200-300 calories about 4-5 hours before bed with a limit of about 4-5 grams of carbs. Most of the time my blood sugar goes up 5 pts for every 1 gram of carbs I eat . When I'm following what I know I should do my blood sugars stay consistently below 100 - even after eating. The goal is constant stability. I eat hearty breakfasts and awesome lunches - when I'm up moving around and can process the food.

The greatest respect to Moogie and the articles cited.....I read them too but was still concerned about the long term damage high blood glucose can cause. I decided that if I can adjust the readings by changing what I'm doing then it probably isn't the dawn phenomenon. I got hyper vigilant about watching the labels of the foods I eat. <1 gram of carbs can be up to .9 grams. 0 grams can be up to 0.5 gram!! Those little buggers add up fast - especially if you are eating 2-3 servings. Look for hidden sugars and starches in the ingredient list that don't match up with the nutrition label. HWC is an example....it is the fatty creamy stuff that floats to the top of whole fresh milk - milk has lactose in it - lactose is sugar! So realistically there is some sugar in HWC (.49 grams of carbs per 2 T - thank you USDA nutrition website and Dr Adkins!). Ok, sorry to interrupt.

I hear you, Happy! I too had to drop the amount of protein I was eating. Forgive me for giving a partial answer! As I told someone else, I had to give up supplements, because I cannot find any without some form of sugar/grains in them.

I know isn't that crazy? Why? why do they put sugar in EVERYTHING! 2 grams of carbs in a biotin capsule!!
