Had a temporary eating binge that lasted for about a month in december thought exercising hard and eating alot would be ok, apparently not, my weight bottomed at 173 in dec. and spiked to 179 at end of dec, finally back to more strict vegan and seeing the weight drop again in Jan now at 174 as of today, No more fried foods and seafood, was eating so called vegan granola bars, French fries, deep fried seafood, sushi, and way more calories than I liked it was still vegan, or so i thought but batters of deep fried seafoods use eggs and milk and are not vegan? Not counting calories or logging daily foods now but if my weight doesn't break out of this 173-179 range I might start strict vegan diet with restricted calories and counting again. Noticed that I have more energy and feel better on restricted calorie and vegan diet.

Good for you. I didn't go to the gym but did get my steps in everyday. I'm not vegan but do try to eat reasonably well. I didn't do that either. I'm still working on my five pound gain. I want to be like you... LOL

Oh no exercise is not good for maintaining or loosing weight, nutrition is for maintaining and or loosing weight

Sorry but I dont think you understand that "Vegan" is a compasionate lifestyle not just how you eat - which means you eat/consume NOTHING that comes from any animal or insect. That's shoes, car seats, etc. Vegetarian is an eating choice, not a diet, but that means you do eat things that include Dairy products, Honey, etc. Finally there's Pescatarian from the sounds of it your chosen eating choice, which includes seafood, just no animal flesh. None of these choices prohibit you from eating fatty fried foods. It's just a matter of what life style and eating choices you choose.

I was a strict vegan before december but strayed eating seafood in DEC. but no eggs, dairy, or animal meat. December I tried to experiment to see what types of foods I wanted as my regular diet, how it affects my weight, and whether I could eat as much as I felt as long as it was vegan+seafood without counting calories it didn't work, I plateaued for a month DEC. but then the fried seafood crept in, vegan granola bars, was distracted because I stopped logging daily foods so didn't know what my calorie intake was I was burnt out on measuring food logging on fat secret and caliriecounting every day. I also did 3 seafood buffets in DEC.I think I really know that I can't eat unlimited calories and need to either eliminate or cut down seafood proteins, fried foods, unlimited corn chips guac. salsa, basically I was overeating my guess was 3000 calories per day in DEC. Although I was working out alot too but didn't really gain much but more of a plateau. My weight history is 230-173 lbs twice at 230 in the last 5 years and twice at 173 ditto last 5 years so its been like a yo yo and 173 is a psych barrier that I can't break thru in the last 5 years, I'm 51 6' without shoes and 174 lbs with 16.5% bodyfat don't know how accurate the bodyfat reading is on cheap electronic scale but my bmi charts say I'm normal weight. I would like to get to 160-165 but so difficult. No weightlifting only vigorous tennis 1 or 2 times per week 2 hrs each time.

Maybe because I'm older but if I don't exercise, I gain weight. If I was a bodybuilder I would assume that I would think differently. At one point in my life I had a lot more muscle (which I will never gain back). I can't say that my weight changed very much if any. I know that we have been told that muscles weigh more than fat but my experience is that my muscles don't weigh very much as it never made a difference. Once again I'm not talking about bodybuilding which I know nothing about but by the look of some of those huge muscles, I would think that they would weigh more.

If you're stalled out, maybe try whole food plant based eating for a couple weeks instead of counting & logging. It's not very different from what you're doing now & it might just be that extra push you're looking for.

Common misconception about fat is that it weighs a lot less than muscle the ratio is not much different muscle is about 1/6 or 15% heavier than fat they are almost equal in weight ,roughly but muscle burns calories fat is just like jello it burns zero calories.

I was pre diabetic when i was 230 lbs in Jan 2017 amazing what exercise, restricting calories, weight loss of 56 lbs in 12 months, becoming vegan, can do for my cholesterol, and my a1c dropped from pre diabetic to normal.my diabetes was reversed without medication, Eliminating eggs, animal meat, dairy, seafood, fried foods, processed foods, fast foods, and increasing fruits, vegetables, beans, whole grains.

Well Johnmarth without even knowing too much on the subject I can easily believe that they are both closer in weight due to my experience. Someone I knew experimented with a person who did not exercise and carried a few hundred pounds. They made them lift weights with their legs. It was amazing how much they could lift.

I’m not telling u to not exercise, I go to the gym 2-3 a week, but I don’t focus on that... I eat in a calorie deficit 5-6 days a week. I focus on my diet, that’s what I’m trying to tell u.

When I first started my weight loss program my diet was definitely the main focus i was too fat that exercise was painful, in Jan 2017, it was brutal eliminating candy, sugar, pastries, meat, fast food, dairy, ice cream, and a painful adjustment of restricting calories from 3000+ per day to 1200 per day, I was consuming probably 3000-4000 calories per day before my program. Correcting the diet is always the first and most important part of a weight loss program because you have to have a caloric deficit to start weight loss and exercise cannot burn excess calorie consumption that's 2000-4000 calories above the average basal m r.

Now that I'm 172 lbs dropped 58 lbs in one year from 230, exercise is helping to speed my metabolism, burn fat, burn more calories, and keep the fat off, and keep my muscle tone I can't stress how important combo of healthy diet and exercise is for burning fat, fat loss once you are at your target weight or maintenance program
