OrbityGoZoom's Journal, 04 October 2017

As I'm getting back on track with regular logging of weigh-ins & food I have been weighing daily. I won't keep doing that for the long haul. Once a week is better overall. Just while I'm getting back in to the swing of things and making this part of my regular routine again it seems like the thing to do.

I'm finding that it, along with my fasting blood glucose readings every morning, is giving me valuable feedback. Since my doctors appointment on Sept 13 I have gone from 286.6 to 280.6 & my average weekly BG has dropped from 167 to 152. I can see the difference in my numbers when I had higher carbs the day before & look back on what meals worked better than others.

I also realized that the one year anniversary of my diabetes diagnosis was last month. I have definitely seen improvements even though I haven't met my goals. I was shooting to be down under 250lbs. And I almost made it! I was 295 at the time I was diagnosed & got down to 253!!! Then I back stepped over the summer. My a1c has gone from 11.3 to 8.0, which is great! I was shooting for 7 or below. So close on both of my goals... I often get close to achieving my goals & then lose track of them & self sabotage.

I am trying not to think too much about where I could be if I had stuck with it. Even with my set backs I have still improved! I am excited to see such a significant change and am not discouraged at all! Oh! And to top it all off I had started smoking again but am now 1 month 4 days & 17 hours smoke free!
280.6 lb Lost so far: 83.4 lb.    Still to go: 80.6 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

That's great, especially the no smoking! I also am weighing in daily right now and it helps me stay motivated... but I also know from previous experience that it can become obsessive and frustrating particularly when the scale is not moving. So I think I am going to give myself a cut off day on that... like maybe only another 2 weeks of daily weigh-ins.

Wonderful to see the "new you" emerging from unhealthy patterns! Go you!

Z'sMama: Thanks! I've quit before for years at a time. But then stress & thinking I can have "just one"... well, we know where that leads! Feeling better & not missing it at all. Smell a lot better too! Lol!

From371to184: I really appreciate your encouragement! I'm finding that the times that I am falling back on unhealthy patterns are happening less frequently & for shorter durations. I remember reading something that has always stuck with me: "Practice, practice, practice without reproach." I know that being perfect is not realistic. But beating myself up with guilt just adds to the stress & often has me stalled instead of just getting back on track!

Hi! Great progress, on the weight loss and on the tobacco loss. Loved the term "self sabotage"; over the past 40 or so years, I've lost thousands of pounds. Unfortunately, I go on a carb binge and find them again. Interesting points on the daily/weekly weigh-ins; I usually weigh in daily, but can see the advantage when one hits a plateau of, say, 4 days...it would make sense to switch to weekly for morale sake. Thanks and have a great one.

I've been told smoking is even worse for someone with diabetes than it is for someone without. To hear that you're getting away from that is absolutely fantastic! It means better health not only for you, but for those around you as well! Good for you! :D
