DairyKing's Journal, 03 February 2012

I was glad to see Friday get here, but I'm starting to get a little concerned about how fast Fridays seem to come and go, and then there's the months and the years, and well . . . better not go there. I'm here for the gusto; enjoying the here and now, and still not sure what I'm going to be when I grow up, or what the good Lord still has in store for me. Just reached my 40 lb. milestone; I'm half-way there. Had a 0.5 lbs. loss this morning, before I headed downstairs to run. Did 3.3 miles again, but this time with no hills - only a 1% incline for the last half of the run. Didn't get up until 4:00 AM, so I tried to speed up a mile or two per hour to get through the run quicker. The workout program kept pulling me back every couple of minutes into the speed change. Still managed to get er done about 3 minutes ahead of the predicted workout time. I have to quit staying up so late writing letters and studying.

I'm ecstatic about a greater than 5 lbs. loss this week. I think my body has been wanting to make the breakthrough for over a month, and I just kept putting the skids to it. It was basically the decision to balance the intake and halt the late-night carbing up that I think really stimulated the weight loss again. It was unreasonable to assume that I could load my body up with sugars before I went to bed,and still expect a loss in the morning. I've got a long way to go, but it sure is easier to move when you're 40 lbs. lighter. Bring on those hills!

On a more somber note, my wife and I see the breast cancer surgeon for the 1st time tomorrow morning. All we know is that it is stage 2. From all the reading we've done, it appears it can still be stage 2 and not in the lymph nodes. This waiting for the consultation has been the hardest part. Finally, after my wife told the family doctor that she was on the waiting list to see the surgeon, he got mad and called them, and now we have an appointment in the morning. So, pray that we will be better informed, that it is non-invasive, small and confined to the local area - or that she is miraculously healed. That would work too.

Well, back to work.

Glad to see such a great turnaround this week w/ your losses! Great Job! Lifting your wife and you in prayer... miraculous and total healing would be awesome! Short of that, wisdom and precision to remove everything and get her back to a state of good health asap! Much Love!!!

I guess I haven't read back far enough-I had no idea about your wife! I am praying for both of you! I'm glad your gen practitioner got mad--that's exactly the kind of doc you want on your side. Well done making the halfway mark--it's a hill we're all climbing, whether we're still ramping up, or on the home stretch. As for carbing up, you DO need the energy, but try the more natural ones-bananas are great either just before or after running! Beef up on the green veggies, too. Lots of complex carbs there.

DK, my mom had the same diagnosis...she had a lumpectomy, and is now going into her 4th year post surgery and cancer free. No chemo, just radiation and medication. I will be praying for your wife and for you. God bless you and keep you!

Waiting is difficult.....praying for a positive outcome for you! And, great job on hitting the 40 mark! When I hit 40 it was a huge success for me, 40 pounds is a lot of weight to carry around! I totally understand the late night carb thing; my earlier success was due to my discipline NOT to do such things but I must admit I have sneaked in a carb or two as of late.....good reminder! Blessings.

Thanks, Buddies! I really appreciate your support. It is amazing just how much more a site this is, than just a place to get diet information. We think she caught this early with a mammogram and no other indications. Then she had the biopsy and MRI. I'll be sure to keep you all up to date as I learn more. Thanks again!
