What a beautiful Sunday morning! 45F. We have certainly been blessed with a mild winter thus far. January is always the coldest month of the year, and we just kind of blew by that one this year. Ran 7.3 miles this morning with hills at 3% incline that took me to an elevation of 1,400 feet. Still not within sight of the Denver airport. :D Hoo Rah! I feel better this time than I did after the 6.3 mile run last Sunday. Maybe it's the 4 poached eggs that I ate almost immediately after running. The experts seem to agree that you need to eat protein within an hour of a heavy workout to promote muscle repair and growth. I'll try it again after the long run next Sunday and see what I feel like afterwards. Everything is about learning from your experiences. Over 18 1/2 miles this week. I'm getting there. Actually, I'm glad that I took most of my running inside for this winter; I'm building a good base, increasing my mileage without violating the 10% rule, and I'm not experiencing any shin or hamstring problems. Knock on wood! I'd take the trailer and go get my eliptical, rowing machine and exercise bike out of storage if we didn't have the Super Bowl festivities at the church this evening. I'm relying on pushups, situps, and the pullup bar right now for my off-running days.

Well, I told you I would keep you up to date on my wife's situation. We met with the breast cancer surgeon yesterday. The good news is that it is stage 1 cancer, which means it's pretty local. Doctor had told us it was Stage 2; but surgeon said it was grade 2, and she wished doctors wouldn't say anything about the grade because it confuses patients and only means anything to the surgeon. Surgery is in a couple weeks. It's a lumpectomy (However, the surgeon says there's no such thing as a lumpectomy; it's really a partial masectomy). In any case, she will remove tissue inside the breast in two places, and my wife will have to go through radiation 5 times a week for 6 weeks. It's actually an outpatient surgery, but we will be there for over 12 hours that day, because of the time waiting for the radiological injections to do their thing before the surgery, and the normal hurry up and wait processes that always seem to occur in a hospital.

Well my FS Friends, have a wonderful day, and if you like football, I hope you enjoy the Super Bowl game between the Giants and the Patriots. Hopefully, we will be seeing the Redskins there next year. :)

So glad to hear that your wife's doctor visit went well. That is EXACTLY what my mom went through 4 years ago. She just had her 4 year check up and all is wonderful...one more year on the meds and she will be considered cancer free. Great job on the run, and please know that I will be praying for your wife. Have a great rest of your Sunday!

Thanks Buddies! We'll take it one day at a time from here. We are confident that we will have the best care possible for my wife, and there are some great people at the church that are going to help her through her recovery period with meals, and emotional support. I'll have to watch it though; they have a tendency to bring over enough food for an army. As far as the running goes, it just keeps getting gooder and gooder. :) I've always had strong legs with minimal body fat there; I think it would hurt if someone tried to pinch enough to take a body fat measurement. The gut, now that's a different story. I'm just one of those guys where all the weight goes to my upper body. But we're working on that too. I just want to develop a good exercising habit that I enjoy, so that when I do get the weight off, I don't quit what got me there, and blossom out again. Have a great evening! BTW; congrats to the Super Bowl Champs: the New York Giants!
