Had another great night w/ the Group at church. We have a 'privacy' agreement - so I can't go into any real 'specifics'... but I will say, I started the night by telling them we were going to do things a bit different! Last night's focus would be on 'Accountability'.

They all collectively MOANED, LAUGHED, and then some CRIED!

That says a lot - huh?

The one man, came in about 5 min's after all the women, so I briefly reviewed the changes and what we were doing, and what our focus was.. and his response was.. "YEAH"! (Fist pump and all!)

We all laughed some more! (what a contrast!)

Biggest success of the week - PREPLANNING

Biggest pitfall of the week - Lack of Consistency!

I know it's not just me... you guys do see the connection there too? right?

So we went thru the circle and talked at length about ways to support each other, and ways to improve in this upcoming week.

It was a good class! Ended in prayer for each person - speaking words of encouragement for the upcoming week. Can't change a single thing about yesterday - but we can begin to change our MINDSETS to have a better day today.

Sounds like a great night.... Mindsets... Such a powerful tool, to change our mindset from this too hard and I can't do it, to I CAN do this. Brings to mind the poem - "the race is won, not by the fastest and strongest man, but by the man who thinks he can" (can't remember the exact words - but a great motivational poem)

Skinny - so true! I CAN do this - is exactly where these folks are! or at least where they are trying to get to! I know it's a hard mindset to shift into... especially if you have a lot to lose... seems almost insurmountable sometimes. But one pound at a time.. WE CAN! Sometimes we have to shut out the long term vision for awhile... and stay in the moment, and focus... I CAN DO THIS TODAY! I CAN make good choices today! I CAN find time to make me a priority TODAY! I CAN move and have more activity TODAY! I CAN be a helping hand and an encourager to someone else TODAY! I CAN get to the end of my day, and lay my head down knowing that I did all I knew to do... to move me forward...today!

Little do they know... I am going to ask the same things from them tomorrow.. but we will let tomorrow worry about itself! ;)

LOL... Are they ready for you Jafantome - the poem I was talking about. ... If you think you are beaten, you are. If you think you dare not, you don't. If you'd like to win but think you can't, It's almost certain you won't. Life's battles don't always go To the stronger or faster man, But sooner or later, the man who wins Is the man who thinks he can.

Skinny- great poem. Its wonderful to read this journal in the morning. I always need a little reminder than mindsets are the key to everything. Jsfantome- sounds like they are lucky to have you as their teacher. :)

Amen to that Buffy! It really takes a lot for me to hold back to some degree and not want to shake a couple of them... but then I have to remind myself - my goal here is to help THEM. This isn't about me, I've already done the work, and consider myself an ongoing success story. This is about them. You know, when you sit across from someone - who basically is saying... I don't feel worth it ... I just can't seem to put the right steps together to make this actually a 'change' for me... Well, it breaks my heart. And it motivates me to do everything I can to MOTIVATE THEM! Last night.. that person had a great week and was flying high on their successes! She even announced to the group, you know... Paula was right on night one, when she said if you can put these steps together to lose one pound... you got this! Because you only then have to rinse and repeat! PRE-PLANNING - and CONSISTENCY will carry you a very long ways towards your goals!

Sounds like you have a great group there. They are so fortunate to have you there guiding them as you do.

thanks Keli - just really feeling like so many of us have opportunities come our way to serve... in some capacity or another.. and we have to beg off and not answer when God asks something of us, because we are not ready. We are not paying attention to this body he gave us, to our health, and our abilities and remaining in shape - I just don't ever want to be that person again.. (and I was there!) that when God asks me to be a part of something, I have to say "No, Sorry Lord, I'm not up for it! Too tired, too out of shape... you'll have to ask someone else." It's a crappy way to live - and I don't want it any more for me.. for you.. or for anyone. Too much in life to be a part of... to be held back by our own previous neglect. How ungrateful to God is that?

Paula - I think you are the best coach and motivator a group can have. Also, I am wondering if this will not have the positive effect of the much desired weight loss for you since you are not concentrating on yourself so much. Of course, you are also here to support people but it is a different world. There you can't just hop off and say I need to go to the gym ;-)// I think your idea with exercising every other day is a very good one. The body gets so used to everything, food, workout, you name it, it works with it and adjusts to it.
