Sorry to any guys who read my blog, but I'm having a "womanly" problem.

Okay, so I started here on fatsecret the same day I decided to truly commit to losing weight. That was, without closing this screen and having to start this blog all over again, on or about Wednesday, November 18th. My TOM came Saturday, November 28. That was the last time. I live with my boyfriend. So, well we know what that entails, we're all adults. But three tests later, all results negative.

Does anyone seriously know if weight loss, change of diet, and increasing exercise affect(effect) the timing of your TOM? Because honestly, if one more person asks me if I'm pregnant, I'm going to scream. It happened AGAIN this morning, that's 3 people in as many weeks. The first two times I can maybe understand, the first time was a cashier in Walgreens, it was freezing out, I had on a t-shirt, a sweater, a sweatshirt, a scarf, and my winter coat at the time had a belt that was very high, so it would push out my "stomach region." The second time was this past Saturday, and I had on another empire waist type top, so it may have given the illusion that I was hiding a "bump." But this morning, nothing. I was wearing a different coat, no empire waist shirts, nothing. That combined with TOM's lateness. I am now freaking out.

All of this, despite the mental implications, is making me lose my resolve. I've lost a little bit over 20lbs. I don't think that's small potatoes. So why now, when I'm at my lowest in a long time, am I getting all these questions?

Ah well, I am still down. So that's good. And I'm working on getting down to 170lbs by mid February. Then hopefully I'll be able to achieve my 30lbs by the end of March. I know that my weight loss will begin to taper off the more I lose, I'm planning that it'll hopefully be warmer by that point, so I can start getting out and walking again and then hopefully, ankle pending, bringing it up to a jog, then a run.

Speaking of walking, I took advantage of the warmish weather last night and went out for a walk, it was nice. It felt good to not have to run in place on the hardwood floor of my apartment with a Wii remote in my pocket.

Okay, please hopefully someone have good news for me about my first problem. It's driving me crazy, and not in a good way.

No 5 today, not until I know for sure.

well, first thing first: a pregnancy test (urine test) can be negative even if you are pregnant. it is made to "find" the pregnancy hormon, and if it doesn't find it it doesn't mean there is no. so, you'd better have a blood test (or a physical exam)to make sure. yes, losing weight can change your cycle and you might not have your period in a long time, especially if yo lost the weight very fast. and third thing, Empire waist style is TERRIBLE for the tummy! I've seen pictures of models in this kind of clothes and they all look pregnant, honestly. I hope everything will be fine. take care!

Hmm. I know that when I started losing weight it looked like my lower belly was getting bigger--because the weight first came off around my waist. This also happens when I step up my ab exercises. It takes the lower belly awhile to catch up. And Jessy is definitely right about the TOM and changes in diet and exercise. Good for you for getting outside. It's another nice day today. Dont lose the faith. You are on the right track.

But so to be clear, you haven't had your TOM since November? If so, have you seen your gyno? Not to worry you. There might be another explanation.

I've never been to the gyno, I have this fear of going, but I do have an appointment at Planned Parenthood on January 30th. My job doesn't offer medical, so its my only option. And I've been taking the tests weekly. OH I forgot to mention something, I got it for a day in December. That was it, one day. Also, all I've been doing is stressing. Like a crazy person, which I'm sure isn't helping.

Stress can also impact your cycle. I agree with Jessy and with Beets suggestion about seeing a doctor and having a blood test perhaps. I'm glad you have an appointment at Planned Parenthood ... that will work. I hope you get some clarification soon. Whatever it is it is and most likely it is just your body changing. I'm sure it must be annoying having people ask you if you are pregnant. No worries ... your body is shifting and soon that will pass!! Take care ... keep us posted.

First off... Congratulations on the weightloss, 20 lbs what a milestone! And yes, along with that are the body changes, shifting, nothing fitting right, people watching lol, and stress. Of course there are the better side effects and the joy of accomplishment, so keep it up! You have some good advice already. I don't think I ever mentioned it on fs, but my TOM was def effected by EXERCISE, not diet. I would spot post work outs. Dr, couldn't explain it just said my body was still adjusting. (I had a child about a year before that). I think you are dropping weight consistently enough to confuse your body. If you had dropped more slowly your body would have more time to adjust, MAYBE? Also there are other symptoms w/ pregnancy, sore breast, maybe slight cramping, sleepy... do an overall check and yes go to the doctor to know for sure. Most offices do the tests for free if you just walk in, but maybe you do need blood work.

Also might be something to do with the type of birth control you use? Hope everything is okay!! I used to be terrified of the gyno, too. It is not so bad and something you should really do if you can. Lecture over:)

Is your diet calendar correct that you're eating less than 1000 calories on most days? Because if so, this is probably the reason for your absent periods. Metabolic starvation causes amenorrhea. So will excessive exercise.

My diet calendar is correct. I'm trying to eat all of my weight watchers points, but that still is barely above 1200 calories a day. I'm so confused. I'm actually less worried about pregnancy, than I am about something being truly wrong with me.

YES! it can affect your TOM!! the same exact thing happened to me! don't worry, it'll come back. :) as far as people asking if ur preggers, ignore them. you look amazing and 20 lbs is no small potatoes, like u said!

thank you rox. and to everyone, actually. it's what I needed to hear. I don't think that I would be half as worried about not getting it, if the constant questioning wasn't present. Just with 3 different people asking me in such a short amount of time, it really threw me for a loop. I kept asking myself if they could see something I couldn't, and if I was simply turning a blind eye to it. I'm sure it'll come, and it'll probably be the day before my appointment, forcing me to cancel and have to reschedule.

I don't think your TOM will come back until you start balancing your caloric intake with your energy output better. Your daily caloric deficit should be no more than 1,000 calories per day for healthy weight loss (that's 2lbs per week). So if your average daily calories burned from exercise are 2707, you should be eating at least 1707 calories per day at a bare minimum. Less than this is potentially putting your health at serious risk.

I'm not 100% that sitting and working at my desk is burning 1115 calories per day, as per fatsecret. I mainly base it off of my main "real" exercise, such as Wii Fit and when I work with weights, or go walking outside. I simply fill in that just so I can account for my hours of the day.
