NavymomT's Journal, 16 November 2016

Good morning all,

I just completed my annual Biometeric screening for the county insurance and i have to say I am happy with the results. My blood pressure is 110/80, my HDL is 45 (a little low according to the nurse) and my BMI is at 28. She said that I would have to get down to 125lbs for my BMI to be in "acceptable" range. I dont know if i have another 26lbs I can lose in order to get there. I feel good this morning even after a crappy start to the day.
I hope you all have a great day.
Tina

BMI is NOT the way to measure health! Look to have your bodyfat measured by the trainer at your gym using calipers. BMI does not account for muscle or body structure - just weight and height. You are looking and feeling well !

Best of luck on all of it. You are going great, and just stay focused.

You have done a fabulous turnaround for your health and achieved a hugely impressive weight loss! I'm sure if you WANT to lose another 26 lbs you would absolutely get there. Seems like your other health markers are spot on when you are just a short ways from your goal. Does what they are telling you make any sense? What is your height? It's funny that FS doesn't have us give our height with our stats.

HCB, I understand about the BMI not being a way to measure health but according to the County insurance provider, it means the difference between a reduction in premium and an increase. They DO use it. So think about the people who have high BMI's like I had this time last year. It is a bunch of hogwash to me but that is the way it is unfortunately with BCBS

T64, I am going to do my best but I am not going to kill myself trying to get there this year. I have until this time next year to get it done before the next required Biometric screening by BCBS.

After reading your post I calculated my BMI. I am at 25.1. .1 into overweight, BOO! But it got me wondering about yours. Did they give you a weight range for acceptable? 125 seems like it might be at the "low" end....

Yes, they did give me a weight in order to get my BMI down to 24. It is the 125 so like I said in my earlier post, I have to lose another 26lbs to get there. I was told that I wont look right if I lose down to that because of my bone structure (which is on the large side). If I can get to the 140 and get into a size 10 pant comfortably, I will be more than happy. I can always work on the other 14lbs between then and next November when we have to do another screening for insurance.

Navymom T, I think you right about make your goal 140. When you get there, if you're feeling more power to you. I think we have to be happy, not make other happy. It's your happiness and feeling healthy that counts!

I have lots of people tell me I am small enough now. I would still like to lose this last 10 lbs tho. I really think it's best to see where YOU feel most comfortable. A lot depends on your build and height. How tall are you?

Wow - premium tied to BMI? That is crazy and you are doing great so still do what you know is right!

We are about the same height - I would have a hard time maintaining under 140 at my age. I have been in the 120's when younger but had to eat nothing to stay there

Navymom I'd encourage you to look into this further. Any health-contingent employee program like you describe legally must provide a reasonable alternative to avoid the penalty for that non-qualifying metric rather it be another measurement (say waist or body fat), an educational program, or a physician's waiver.

Time2FixMe, this is the county govt insurance where i work. i wont have to worry about it until the middle part of next year so for now my goal is just to get down to 140 and a size 10 pant. i am not going to kill myself to get dow to the 125 they said i would need to be at for it to be at the 24.
