*Insert primal scream here*

I did NOT want to go to the place where I was counting out grams of protein and carbohydrates. I wanted it to be easy: avoid this, eat more of that. Write it all down and see what happens.

Now, I have learned something new which cemented what I had read years ago: too much protein supports disease.

My goal is longevity. This means I don't want to upregulate mTOR. It means I want my body to recycle damaged proteins. In a nutshell, I need to keep MY protein intake at 50-60 grams per day, unless I want build muscle. In that case, I will need to recalculate.

So, I need way more veg, more fat, less meat and eggs. Oh, my sweet, lazy self is rebelling at this idea. *insert whining noises here*

Yep, Dr. Fung's blog today was an eye opener! I've been questioning the keto group on FB about the protein target. It's set WAY high. And when you IF, reaching the target is tough! On the other hand, I've also experienced a good bit of hair loss, and noticed my muscle strength declining a lot.The only change is my lifestyle has been what I'm eating, and the rate of muscle loss is a bit alarming. So finding that delicate balance of protein/fat/fiber is a work in progress for me.

So, you are eating under? That is better, because you will catabolize loose skin and age spots, right? *insert shrill tone* RIGHT?!?

LOL..so the theory goes. I still have bat wings and a belly flap....PLUS I'm losing hair and strength! I'm averaging 30-90 g protein a day.

Sport this comment is supposed to be for Mskestrela. Lady this calorie counting is the first time losing weight that my hair is not thinning. Hsir stylist said hair is very healthy, my nails grow like weeds. I work on balancing protein, fat and carbs. Seems to be working so far. Best wishes you find that healthy balance.

The newsletter article today was the first time I've heard anyone discuss a remedy for loose skin (beyond surgery). I like the sound of catabolizing loose skin. We are the living experiment, so lets keep tabs on this one. I've had a major stall, but I do think the belly and arm skin has been adjusting some. And I expect that getting back to yoga after a 6 week hiatus for pneumonia will help with that too. I also had a muscle mass loss which I attributed to my 6 day fast and the couch month. As I'm moving more now, the vigor is coming back, slowly, and I hope to build up the muscle again.

Oh yikes, I haven't read the latest newsletter yet but I guess I'd better. Good luck all.

I don't really look at my daily intake, I keep within my daily limits (mostly) on the days that I eat, but there are many days I don't eat, so I look at my daily average on my monthly calendar. I have only had a couple of fasting days this month. Right now my daily average for protein is 47 grams....I had 45 today, less than one gram yesterday, I had 70 on Monday, less than one gram on Sunday. When I get a craving for protein, I eat it. My daily average for the month of August was 31 g.
