jsfantome's Journal, 20 September 2011

Had a follow up w/ Dr. today... she says.. "had on my list to discuss your weight.... hum??... you aren't overweight... wonder why I wanted to talk to you?"

She leaves the room... comes back... "oh, what exactly have you done to lose so much weight?... you're 144 lb on our scale... that's like 65+lbs since 2 years ago???"

I burst out laughing... then I actually was giddy... because her scale read 144!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ugh, ... Low Carb... I got rid of the junk in my eating habits, and now eat mostly protein, veggies, and selected fruits and other low carb items.

"Is that like Atkins?" ... "Yes, exactly like..."

"Wow! That's impressive...Keep up the great work!"

"Well, thanks for noticing...and will do!"LOL!

Breast biopsy is scheduled for a surgical consult on Thurs. Hope they do it right then, but they may not... will keep you posted. Everything else was fine. She did mention the Cholesterol numbers, but when she realized I had eaten bacon and eggs just a couple hours before and had not FASTED... she reordered the test for 3 months out... and said to be sure I did fast prior next time. She asked that I try to eliminate eating high fatty 'meats' for two weeks prior to the test... that should give a better indication. But my good cholesterol was GOOD...so she wasn't overly concerned. Yes!

Anyway... just thought I would share :)

Hooray on the cholesterol reprieve! Too funny on the weight story. What a great appointment. We take my daughter (15) in for a follow up next Monday. She has lost 30 pounds since January (her last appointment) and they're checking her cholesterol too. I'm hoping for similar results for her appointment.

Great appointment - was curious about the non-fasting cholesterol test - anyone I've ever had was fasting.

Great job, sounds like your numbers will be good, amazing really to say to eliminate eating fatty foods for a couple of weeks before test, wish I knew as I am having mine done on Monday, but kind of makes me think what a waste of time cholesterol numbers are, if that makes any sense......

Fantastic - 144 lb on a doctor's scale - wow! And that the doc was impressed and OK with Atkins/low carb. Its a slow process but the medical world must come around, we can only hope! Hope all goes well on Thursday. As you say unlikely they will do biopsy at that time but you never know.

You should update your recorded weight today on FS. 144...on a doctor's scale...fully clothed. It's worth recording, and I'm with gg-girl; I'd be asking to take that scale home with me! :) That's really awesome. Isn't it fun to shock Doctors? 65 lbs in 2 years...and kept it off! You go girl! Keep on leading by example; we'll do our best to follow! :) Good luck with your other medical tests.

thanks again for all your love and support.. funny thing about her reaction - it set in motion a whole conversation about DIABETES. She asked me about 'why' I started in the first place, and then once she realized my story about my Dad (which for those that don't know, suffered w/ Type II for 35 yrs, and died a slow, debilitating death because of it) - and how I didn't want to end up like him... she told me about how MANY people in her practice she sees because of Type II. We talked at length about the reduction of carbs, eating clean whole foods, balancing carbs w/ proteins and healthy fats, eating natural sugars like fruit in the morning/day time as opposed to at night... etc... and she even asked me if I would come back and speak w/ some of her patients if she held a nutritional night! (which I said sure!!!) Just some general tips, food ideas, selections, recipes, etc... good stuff! And I thought of my Dad.. he would have been proud of me. :)

Your doctor's validation is very important. That kind of support is golden.

Fledgist - I couldn't agree more!!! She's a lovely Dr. - Originally selected her for my Mom... and her tender compassion w/ mom led me to switch myself and my hubby's care over to her shortly after! I'm very picky...so in and of itself...that is saying A LOT! :) Hope you are doing well!!!
