Day 19 of 60.

Absolute blind guess as to my calorie intake today. After breakfast we went to the Sri Lanka Cultural Festival in Tokyo. We went to Sri Lanka on our honeymoon many, many years ago, so we've always had a tender spot in our hearts for the place. We saw traditional singing and dancing, shops selling everything from tea to spice to batik and about everything else you associate with Sri Lanka.

We also ate. When we visited Sri Lanka, one of our favorite things to do was to go to the Pagoda Tea Room in The Fort neighborhood in Columbo for short eats and lime juice. Short eats are small savory pastries -- samosas and various others -- that we remember as being soooo good. So when we found a stand selling a variety of short eats at the festival, we had to try them. Problem is, how many calories do they contain? I don't have a clue. I found a listing for samosas, so I picked that times three. I had intended to have curry later on, but found that I really wasn't hungry, so that probably saved me a fair number of calories.

Anyway, the festival was a lot of fun, and the walking around made up for not getting to the gym today. Great weekend.

The festival does sound like a lot more fun than going to the gym!

Wow I am so impressed that you can diet on vacation. Sounds wonderful. My dad often visited Japan and he loved it. He traveled the world in the British Merchant Navy so I guess he had an educated opinion on it. You guys have fun!

@jetgemini, While I guess the trip to the Sri Lanka festival in Tokyo was a very mini-vacation, I actually live in Japan; in Yokohama. I don't even try to diet on vacation. When I visited California, back in July/August, my only goal was to not gain a ton. I limited myself to 2900 calories a day and ended up gaining only three pounds in two weeks, which compared to other vacations in the past was very good news.
