ATTACK OF THE VEGGIES...

to hysterectomy or to not hysterectomy...LOL...kinda...this is mostly a female posting...but dudes can read if they want...(might have a female in their life that has to deal with this stuff)...

ok...went to the obgyn to see what the issues are and why the hormones are not working...was given two options: 1. hysterectomy and all that goes with it or 2. a newer proceedure called NOVASURE...where basically they go in with a flat tool and scare the lining of the uterus - this should stop all of the processes while leaving the organs in place. its my personal belief that GOD gave me these organs for a reason, however they dont work, so i should leave them in as long as possible (or maybe not) read confussion...

kids are not wanted nor have i ever really felt the need to "have" a kid or two...so from the standpoint of the next generation that really does not play into the concerns...hubby is in agreement on this point also...

has anyone had this done or know of anyone who has?...i would really be interested in hearing their stories and how/if it worked...the doc says that if it doesn't do what it is supposed to that i can still do the full blown hysterectomy...

the benefits to the second procedure are that you are back up and at em' in a couple of days...few people have to take off longer than that and with just having lost my assistant and having to work 54 hours a week, it would be nice to not have to make waves so soon about needing time off...jobs are scarce and i would like to keep mine until i find something else...

any input would be appreciated...thanks all

Don't know much about what you're going through. Personally, I'm in agreement w/you and "keeping the stuff God gave you". It's great that you're looking at different options. I would get a second and maybe third opinion...esp if it has to do w/the possibility of hysterectomy. I'm sure you're going to find the best solution for you. ((HUGS))

My best friend had endometrial ablation about 15 years ago in the UK when it was in the experimental stage, for an erratic cycle and heavy periods. She was in hospital for 2 days and it worked for her. She too was offered it as an alternative to hysterectomy and like you she decided to try it knowing that if it didn't work she could still have the hysterectomy. She reckons it was the best thing she ever did as it cured all her problems and she is now going through the menopause. Hope this is of help.

I wish I had more insight for you, but I agree with you that you should try to keep what God gave you. Try the second procedure, and if it doesn't help, you at least have some more time to figure out if the hysterectomy thing is a better option if the second procedure doesn't do what the doctor thinks it will. Good luck!!

This is what I would do. I would write down all the pros and cons of each. Do not burden yourself with trying to keep what God gave you. Your creator first gave you life, and He wants you to live happily and well. If a medical procedure can cure you of what is hurting you, I say go for it. If you decide to get a hysterectomy-- my first piece of advice is to join a support group of women who have had the same thing. I have read a lot of fiction and non-fiction on having it done, and you will need the support from people who have been there. Do not be scared, though, to have that done. Whatever is in your best interested, you should go for. :) And keep us all posted.

Wow....What a decision to have to make. I wish I could help but I really don't know much about this. My suggestion would be to get as much info as you can on both procedures so that you can make an informed decision. The pros and cons list mentioned above is a good idea too. Good Luck!

From everything I have heard, read and talked to others about keeping your organs is the way to go-for as long as possible. I would probably consult more than one doctor if I were in your shoes. Second or third opinions can vary so much and I would want to be very informed before taking out anything in my body. I wish you the best what ever you decide to do and hope everything turns out in the best way possible.

I don't know much about this, I would say definitly get other opinions. I undersand what you're saying about your job, but your health is more important than anything. if you have to take days off, don't feel guilty. i wish you the best.

My sister had it done. Bless her, she is only 31 but has tremendous difficulty conceiving. I advocate keeping as many of your "girl parts" as possible as it will make your transition through menopause much easier. If you can save your uterus, do it. I certainly would.

I had a partial hysterectomy in my 40's, still have my ovaries but had I known at the time my mother died of ovarian cancer, I would have had those removed also. Still have them but wish I did not but they were healthy and they did not take healthy organs out. Veggie, this was a long time ago and because of excessive heavy bleeding, all I did was bleed. And the drugs are different today so maybe that drug would work for you for your problem. The bottom line is you have to do what you feel is best for you with all the information you can get. I was just so tired of it all when the doctor suggested the hysterectomy I was all for it. Enough was enough. I have never regretted it. However, having said that I took hormone replacement therapy for years and now they do not recommend that so you have some thinking to do. My prayers are with you and your decision you make.

My two cents-my sister had full hysterectomy at age 30 after years of terrible suffering. She did not do hormone replacement but has done well since the surgery. She is 42 now. If she had the option of a less radical approach back then, she would have opted for one but she was in tremendous pain and her life was a mess, so she took the only option that held any hope. Like wecandothis, she was exhausted. You have lots of good thoughts here-I'll just underscore a few that resonate with me: Second Opinion Information Pros and Cons Spend some quiet time alone to pray/meditate so you can hear your inner voice Make the decision that you feel is best for you Whatever you decide, I hope you find relief.

My input is a little late ... but here it is. I had my uterus removed about 12 years ago. I would do it again. I still have my ovaries so I still get the joys of menopause now. The other options weren't really options then but still I think I would have opted for the hysterectomy. It was such a relief. I had been having horrid cycles for quite a while. I know there is a lot of belief that keeping your organs is the way to go ... funny we don't feel that way about an appendix that is no longer working well. Sounds like you are really struggling ... I hope you find some relief soon!!
