icymaiden's Journal, 26 August 2011

So the dishwasher decided on the verge of hurricane it wanted to NOT drain. So last night I stuck my hand in the trap to see what was clogging it, and it came back bloody. Pretty deep cut, started bleeding again this morning after my shower. Due to the cut I couldn't go swimming this morning, and was too busy dealing with cleaning up the mess on the floor to try to go to the gym for a different work out. This may be the last day i can log in here, and if we lose power I doubt I'll be able to stay on my diet, I'll have to try to do the best I can, but if I have to eat sandwiches all week next week I will.

You are braver than me Icy to stick your hand in the trap! Good luck with the hurricane...I think it's a safe bet that we will lose power! Batten down the hatches and stay safe.

My hubby found the piece of glass, course he didn't get cut, and he was sticking his hand in the same place as I was. Unfortunalty, the damn thing is still clogged. Singlelady, I can't leave...too many animals in my home to leave, and I can't sit in a traffic jam for hours wasting gas and going nowhere. all my family is in this area as well. Trying to remain calm, already took Xanax today, probably will have to take more later and tomorrow...

I'm in Virginia Beach VA, the eye will hit south of here, but the the hurricane will basically roll directly over us (all the forecast models but one show that)

Well be especially careful as the right of the eye is the most dangerous. You are planning on boarding up?
26 Aug 11 by member: kmartin
Can't board up...no money for that type of supply, it would ruin my siding as well and most stores don't have supplies anyway at this point, I'm at work...only have 5 windows and one sliding glass door. Just gonna have to take our chances on that. More worried about water & flooding damage. But I do have flood insurance!

Most of my windows are old pieces of crap, so if they get broken it will give me a reason to replace them (course it would be on a credit card)

Do the best you can, and stay safe and hopefully you and yours will walk away with pretty minimal damages!

Do try and be careful..Stock up on canned meats and no sugar added canned veggies, natural peanut butter, nuts, pork rines, broth, soy milk, and as much water as you can.Charcoal or gas depending on your grill. You can make Spam soup with broth, spam, and some canned veggis to fed the family and still be atkins friendly(hotdogs work too).If you have time freeze as much water as you can.Just a few ideas.hope they help. nonna

good luck! I am in NC waiting for it to hit.

Nonna's got some great suggestions. Canned Chinese veggies are also good when there's no power. Don't skimp on the water. If you don't want to buy any, or if there's no time, just run tap water into as many clean containers as possible for drinking and into every bucket and large container possible for bathing/cleaning. But in the midst of all this, it's more important to try to get that cut looked at....might need a few stitches as Paula thought?? Hang in there.
