Ok, full steam ahead! You have taken the time to come here – make the most use of your time. There are some really good tools on this site, if you use them. Some great friendships to be made, if you make them. And a wonderful support team ready and willing to cheer you on, lift you up, and protect you when you’re down – if you come back here regularly and make this part of your life.

I don’t work for FatSecret by any means! But I believe wholeheartedly in the motivation, and support this type of site brings to the table.

I believe in being committed to yourself. Evaluate where you are at… where you want to be… what you are willing to do to get there… how long you want to take… set your priorities, and goals to line up with those answers. Then make a commitment to yourself to get the job done.

In the beginning – I wanted to lose the weight, probably more than I wanted to ‘just be healthy’. That’s ok. We all start somewhere. And everytime I looked in the mirror… it gave me a new resolve to keep trying. To keep coming back. To keep learning. JUST DO NOT GIVE UP!

This isn’t about Atkins loyalty. I could care less if anyone else on the face of the planet ever eats this way. I don’t think there is only one way to better health. I had my own experiences, and it led me to discover something unique about my body. My metabolism. And this way of eating works very well for me. Whole foods. Natural. Meats, Veggies, Fruit, Cheese, Eggs, Nuts, a few other things mixed in… and I got me a new lifestyle! And… I got 65 unwanted pounds off my butt!!! LOL!

So take some time this weekend – if you have it – and think about what is working in the things you are doing… and what is not working. Think about your goals. Why you started in the first place. Evaluate the need to change things if necessary.

Small changes are HUGELY valuable.

And begin to build your plan.

Plan your work… then Work your Plan!!!

Don’t expect overnight results. But do put a deadline on your plan for some results and then RE-EVALUATE.

If you’re going to tweek something… FOR NOW… let it be ONE thing. Make the change…proceed for two weeks, then re-evaluate. If you have 6 things that need tweeking… this process could take you up to 12 weeks to complete. SO WHAT??? DO IT!!!

In the end you will begin to discover things about your body…your metabolism… your choices, your lifestyle.. all things you need to discover… and you will find some changes that need to be made to make this more successful for you… it’s a WIN- WIN!!!

So put your thinking caps on this weekend – pen and paper in hand – and start to develop your newly evaluated PLAN.

Much Love Ya’ll… Much Love.

That is good advice. I think that's how all, or most of us, start. We intend simply to lose some weight, then gradually the process morphs into a lifestyle change. It isn't about losing weight, after all, but about maintaining a healthy lifestyle in which weight loss will transform into maintaining a stable weight intended to be part of an overall good, healthful life.

Thanks Paula, very well said, I did start just to lose weight for sure, but it soon changed into getting healthy. I think that happened for me when I realized I could do it this time. Also the help and suggestions you get from others is invaluable. At least it has made me think.

Paula - Maybe you should ask him exactly what he means by that!

Thanks Paula. As you know - I am starting anew :) And I think the thing that you said and that we all must remember is that a new start is not a bad thing. it is a positive change and something to be viewed with excitement and energy. Re-evaluating and tweaking your WOE is a good thing. I think it may be something that will help us all avoid stalls and plateaus to some extent. My Husband watches the food channel and likes the Robert Irvine show Restaurant Impossible. In one episode, he was at a restaurant that had been open and sucfessful for 29 years. The owner had never changed a thing and the last couple of years was loosing money in a BIG way. Robert Irvine went in and changed everything - the decor, the menu, the customer base and the staff. it obviously really hurt the owner as he had put everything into the restaurant and as I said, HAD been successful. After the change, he was amazed at how wonderful the place looked and how crowded it was with customers. All that said, for me, it represented the concept you are talking about. Just because we have been successfully loosing some weight does not mean that we will continue to be successful. Change is a good thing and re-evaluating your WOE can be a good thing as well. Thanks for the reminder :)

Paula, As I said, I did look at your food journal a little. Can you explain to me what you mean when you put in the hidden carbs? Where did they come from? I don't see anything that looks as if it has sugar alchohols or anything like that in it. I thought that was the source of most hidden carbs so i am confused.

Hey - Ok, here's the short answer. FS members tweek the nutritional input into sooooo many of the food entries... that I got sick of changing them. I generally eat for example 2 xlg Eggland's best eggs. These should be counted as 1g per egg. They don't come up that way. So I created my own Food Item... and called it Hidden Carbs. Then when I think of it... I enter 2 in the serving size and add it to my meal. Or - maybe I made a salad w/ chopped boiled egg, 2-3 mushrooms chopped, sprinkle of cheese, bacon pieces, cucumber, etc... So I pick the lettuce amount, I might even pick some of those and enter them, but because I know I probably only ate 2-3 bites w/ an actual egg piece or mushroom in it, etc... I again select my Hidden carbs item and add 1 or 2g's for that. Just a way to basically keep me honest. Nothing to do with the REAL meaning of the word "Hidden Carbs". (sorry for the confusion :)

It is OK - you food diary is for you anyway :) I was just being nosey... I try to pay attention to the carb count when i select an item so I hope i am getting the correct information. i will try to be careful with that just in case :)

Paula, I love the way you do your "hidden carbs" thing. I have struggled with putting .3 of a tbsp or tsp or whatever when my little additions seem to pretty regular in my scrambled eggs and salads. This will be so much easier and I will finally feel like I am recording it all. I also appreciate your words of wisdom for those of us who are working hard to create a new WOE and thinking about food. You wrote something earlier about SF jello and it was an "aha moment"...I immediate quit putting the stuff in my mouth and a pound fell off...I swear it was that quick. I enjoy hearing your stories as so many of us are alone in our venture and have no local mentor. FS opens a completely new avenue of resourse, friends, and much needed support. Thank you for taking your time to share with the rest of us. Much love back to you.
