I'll start off this post with the following statement: I miss Rufus.

My husband and I made the decision to adopt a 2 year old mastiff mix named Love. She walks on a leash well, is not aggressive towards other dogs, good with little kids (our friend's 2 yr old daughter enjoyed her yesterday), calm nature, and has a bad case of separation anxiety when left in the crate alone. Dog was previously crate trained, then most recent owners put her in a medium size crate (she has to have extra-large) and she learned how to break out and has put that to great use. We came home to find Love loose in the house, and the top latch of the kennel unlatched, and two poop spots in house, and one pee. So we tried putting her in kennel after she had been outside and with us all day. It was only for 1 hour, but apparently 1 hour too many. She broke out again, peed on the floor, got into the kitchen trash, and scratched our newly renovated door. I wanted to kill her. Actually I wanted to return her. We'd just spent a good bit of money adding onto our house for her to destroy it. We reached out to the rescue organization for help. We're trying to work with her, due to she has been in 7 homes in the last 2 months. So I'm working from home on a Monday, which I normally do not do. We are going to obedience training tomorrow and hopefully find out about doggy daycare/boarding when we are unable to stay at home with her.

On the plus side, we are getting exercise now -- we walked her yesterday, and anytime she needs to go out, we take her around our house at least twice.

I had no idea how Rufus had us spoiled. And every time I walk Love past his grave, I tell him how much I miss him. If I could only turn back the clock....

She is definitely a Daddy's girl. She has attached herself to my husband from the get - go. Granted she is both of our dog. She's only hanging with me due to I am the only one home.

Do I think she will make a fine dog once she chills out? Yes. Can I manage to hang on that long? Maybe. We're going to try to give her 2 weeks and hopefully she'll settle down. If she doesn't, we'll have to return her.

Wow, that poor dog (7 homes in 2 months). Obedience training and doggie day care sound like a good plan. If you find a way to address the anxiety (talk to vet too), it sounds like she will be wonderful companion. Sounds like all those homes has made the anxiety worse too.

Good for you for giving her a chance. We take ours to day care once or twice a week and it really helps :)

Hang in there. Every dog can cause trouble as it adjusts to a new home--yours maybe more than most. :) Always remember, a tired puppy is a good puppy! (And think of all the exercise you can get.

Hang in there it will get better with time. I have a Jack/Rat terrier for over 4 months now, he just turned 1 years old yesterday. My pup was in three homes before our's. I would agree I tired pup is a good pup!
