abbadabba's Journal, 01 August 2009

Did go to the gym today and signed up. Hubby said "ok, but why bother since you didn't go last time you signed up." Well, this is a challenge if I ever heard one. Plus, he won't let me use his weights or treadmill without aggravating me, so I signed up to have my own space and if it aggravates him in the process that's a BONUS! (Can you tell we are feuding at the moment?) I think I have learned a little in the past 15 years since I signed up for the other place, too.

Good friend belongs to the same gym and we have the same work schedules, so I told her I would call her when I go and maybe we can meet up to workout together. I have got to lose weight and I have to get muscles where I don't have any.

On the calorie front, I figured out that I am not going to like sticking to 1100 calories - I just have too much time on my hands and I get too hungry. I think I might get a pedometer too, and then track how much I walk at work - seems like not much, but it could be a mile or two which would up my calorie allowance.

People at work say that I look good, and where would I get the 40 pounds I would like to lose still, but my family quote is "It's all behind me now!" and I also have some pretty loose plus sizes that I can cover myself up with. Gotta get some gym clothes because the t and shorts are just not making me feel like I belong!

OK - today's thought comes from the Turbulence Training literature: You cannot out-train a poor diet. So, I have to keep up the healthy eating to make the workouts really worthwhile!

Hey abbadabba ... thanks for clearing up the post on my journal. It meant a lot to me! You do what is GOOD for you!!! Sounds like you have a great challenge to be successful at with the gym membership. That can be "your space" and give you the freedom to do what works for you. You alone will "know" what weight works for you. I think the comments from others are typically intended to be compliments, even if they might have some other hidden agenda at times, but they don't always feel helpful!! You have had a very nice dip on your chart as of late ... be good to yourself and ENJOY the journey!!

Hidden Agenda's??? I feel badly that you feel some who post on your journal Carol might do that, I guess that comment totally confuses me, I guess I have never noticed anyone being that way on yours but then I am not on the receiving end so what do I know. For my part everyone who posts on mine I have felt are always sincere and are trying to give me encouragement and support and I am so grateful for that. Abbadabba, Great exercise plan you have going on for you and it does sound like you do need your own space so you can concentrate on what your exercise plan is. Just because you did not follow through last time does not mean you will not this time. I understand it can be inconvenient to drive somewhere to work out but you will fit it in somewhere and the buddy system is just too perfect. I am also going to get a pedometer, a lot of FS members have those and really like them. Have a great day and have fun exercising with your buddy. :-)

Whew! I'm so proud of you, buddy, for sticking to your guns!!! What you are doing takes lots of courage!!! Hang in there and keep doing what you're doing. Sometimes as we take off the weight, others' emotions may get triggered, emotions that are tied to whatever role our extra weight has played for them. Tell hubby and your coworkers what you need from them. I'm in the same boat. There are a lot of things I have to do on my own, and I need my family to step back and let me have the extra time/space that I need to burn calories, prep food, etc. Enjoy amazing yourself!

Sorry to know your hubby is not more supportive with your workout efforts. You may love the gym. We all need our "space." Good luck!

Madaboutmoose: you are welcome, I was mentally out to lunch when I posted that ramble! I do practice the "Thank you, so much, I have been working on healthy eating" in a perky tone of voice. Most of the people I work with are men, so their only agenda is NOT hidden! Wecandothis: many people in my life, not here, are trying to be helpful when they say I should stop losing weight. I try not to complain or explain about what I eat and why - after all, they are not my doctor or my tailor (the only two people who ought to be tracking what I weigh!). I think I quit the last time because my daughters were very young and it wasn't convenient to take them - or else I changed jobs and the schedule didn't work. This gym has classes all the time, which is another reason I think this will work - I love the classes!
