Today I decided to reevaluate my weight loss goal. I had it set to 145, which I am now 6lbs away from, i dont feel anymore that I will be satisfied with that. My body fat % is still 36% or something like that and I am carrying all of that on my hips, thighs and belly. I seem to be losing all of my weight in my upper body and only slightly in my hips and belly. My thighs have not shrunken an inch! My waist has gotten very noticeably smaller and I have Michelle Obama arms, but this lower body fat has got to go! So now I have to lose 16lbs instead of the 6....Tonight I will be doing my 1st run in preparation for the warrior dash. I'm super excited to see how well (or terribly) I'll do. And this should also help with the fat loss.

on a positive note, I bought a pair of jeans about 3 months ago and when they arrived, I tried them on and I couldnt get them over my hips. I made getting them on a short term goal, and guess what jeans I am wearing to work today!? Theyre even a bit loose in the waist! Very fitted in the thighs but they're skinny jeans anyway so they look great! I rewarded myself by buying this perfume I have been wanting for a while. Bvlgari Mon Jasmin Noir. I'm feeling pretty amazing right now!

Also, i finally busted through my plateau. I spent 3 weeks at 154 and today I came in at 151.8. its a modest change but I am so grateful to see that number go down! Everything is coming up "Amanda".

Losing weight and lowering your body fat aren't always the same thing. You can keep lowering your goal and still carry too much body fat. You want to lose the fat but keep the muscle. So eat as clean as you can, get in plenty of protein, lean dairy (shown to help reduce body fat), fruits and veggies. The exercise will help too. Re-evaluate every 5 pounds.

Thank you for the advice =) How do you know if you're losing muscle mass vs fat? I have been working out like crazy for almost 4 months, I usually eat very clean (being a vegetarian helps that along), And I have been adhering to a low carb high protein diet. I just recently bought a scale that tracks body fat % but I am at a loss for what exactly to do to lose fat.

that is the million dollar question. The general consensus is... if you eat too low of calories your body starts burning away the muscle at a higher percentage than the fat.... so eating the right amount of calories is important. Also, everyone agrees that weight lifting will help you maintain muscle mass (with a proper routine). AND, the one thing that not everyone agrees upon is daily protein levels. It is my opinion that maintaining adequate protein levels daily will really help maintain muscle mass... ie. minimum of 85g a day for your weight. At my weight, I shoot for a minimum of 100g a day.

Thank you radiochick. I have been making an effort to eat more calories a day. Some says I am getting up to 1600-1800, I'm shooting for around there, but sometimes I'm still only making it to around 1200. Its so weird, on days I dont work out I eat a lot more, but when I do I'm not as hungry. I've have def been lifting weights and taking kettlebell classes once a week. I'm hoping that training myself for this 5k will help with the fat loss. I'll certainly take your advice on the protein as well.

Way to go on the jeans! Always nice to find a pair that fits. From the sounds of it, we have the same body type... small top & large bottom. Jeans are the hardest thing to shop for! I don't have any suggestions for you because I'm struggling with the same thing. THIGH FAT! I'll fill you in if I figure out any secrets!

Congrats! Always a great achievement when something finally fits and jeans are the most gratifying of them all. I'm glad they make you feel fabulous- you deserve it! I heard Jillian Michaels counsel someone against over training, which can make it harder to lose weight. As you get closer to your goal weight, she advises keeping your deficits smaller to kind of "trick" your body into letting go of those last few pounds even though it feels like its in a good place and has a nice amount of fat reserves. Just food for thought. It must be great to see how you look close to your goal- I've imagined that but still have a ways to go.

Thanks guys! Starbird- Totally look into Levis new line, Denim ID. the Bold Curve is the most perfect fit I have ever found. they fit like a dream. Theyre a little wider across the thigh and the back comes up higher than the front so you dont get the plumber crack or gaping in the back that so many jeans give girls w/ our body type. After I bought my 1st pair I decided that this was the only brand I would ever buy again. Gnat- Thanks so much for that advice. I'll definitely employ that. And soon enough you wont have to imagine the feeling. You'll get there!
