SherrieC's Journal, 12 June 2014

Well, I have done it. I have slowly fallen backwards into my old eating habits. I don't want this to sound like an excuse, but once I get all of this ice cream out of the house I will be ok. Please before you say it, I could just throw it out, but my hoarding tendency's tell my mind that you can't waist it. Okay, yes it is an excuse.

Yesterday it finally rained, I am so happy that the garden might actually grow now.Today is going to be a good day, it is my dads birthday, and I am looking forward to visiting him. I see my doctor tomorrow and find out what my test results are, hopefully I will be able to set up my Neurology appointment as well. Gotta run, I need to read everyone's journal before I go so that I can get my morning going. I hope you all have a fantastic day !!!!!

I do understand, about not throwing food out!! Things are so expensive these days. Most of us have been taught not to waste. I understand about falling into old habits too. I had a relapse last night. So easy to do. Today is going to be a better day!! Enjoy yours!!

Don't kick yourself. Took us years to build the so called wrong eating habits. Enjoy your day with your dad. My dad and I would share a cake on Father's Day I was born that day in 1963. Haven't shared a cake since he passed 10yrs ago. Best of luck

Who buys the ice cream? Just asking. If you, change over to greek yogurt. Get plain and add sugar free fat free pudding or jello along with chia seeds. It's really good. My fav is cheesecake pudding. It's good. With chia it's 160 calories.

Well change of plans once again. I am not going to visit with dad today. It is still raining, pretty hard at times, and I have to say I do not drive in the rain. I did call him and he says he is just going to nap all day, so I should just stay home. To answer your question ClassicRocker, unfortunately I had gotten one awhile back and my mom bought me more for my birthday. Is the greek yougurt frozen or like the yoplait ? I will invest in some, thanks for the tip

It's like yoplait. But much healthier, higher protein and less sugars. When you add the jello or pudding, it thickens it a bit and reminds me of a mousse'.

My family has stopped bringing ice cream into the house because they know if they bring it in, THEY have to eat the whole TUB that night. No having it hanging around to tempt me. Now, the thought of eating a whole tub of ice cream makes them sick so they don't do it!! I tell them if they want an ice cream, there are plenty of places they can go buy a scoop - no need to make it hard on me!

Ice cream would be one of my big temptations...glad it's gone Sherrie. :)

I look at it this way...for years I was a smoker. While trying to quit I would intermittently cave in and buy cigarettes. The next day, I would turn on the faucet and soak them. I told myself that is was more expensive in the long haul to keep them around as opposed to holding on to them and gradually undoing all my work.

Classic, stick the Greek yogurt in the freezer for a bit, till frosty, even more like ice cream. So rich an creamy and nice and cold.

Ice cream is also a downfall of mine. I will buy it when I have a crew of grandkids to finish it off, and will have one small bowl or cone myself. I found last summer when ice cream sounded good, burger king had a little soft serve cone for $.50. Just perfect and around 100 calories with no leftovers.

Ice cream is dangerous territory for me too. I was doing well with portion control for a while but the last couple of times we've had ice cream here, portion control just went out the window. I've been eyeballing one of those Yonanas or Dessert Bullet things. I tend to crave the sweet frozen but notsomuch the heavy cream/fat mouthfeel. Sherrie, maybe do a google search on those or look at the reviews on you tube to see how they work. I saw one receipe this morning that was just frozen lowfat cottage cheese w/ orange or lemon zest. Put it thru the machine and you've got a lowfat frozen goodie. The plain fruit sorbets you can do with just frozen fruit look tasty too. Yes, fruit is caloric but depending on the fruit you use, I'm thinking calories could be kept down. Also wondering about freezing greek yogurt into ice cubes and putting it thru the machine. Hmmmmm.

That sounds good Vickie. Thank you everyone !!!! I just have to add one thing, THE COOKIES ARE GONE TOO !!! Time to get back on track, I do have some fresh strawberries that I have frozen. Might be time to work on a smoothie of some sort. All I know is that the junk is gone. I may be a little cranky for a few days but at some point I will get over that. Have a great evening everybody :)

I have been enjoying frozen bananas pureed with almond milk and little peanut butter. Rich, creamy and satisfying.

Frozen bananas are a staple at my house. I buy them marked down, purée them in my processor, freeze the purée in 3oz Dixie cups. Perfect for smoothies, or lots of other things using bananas. When my girls were young I always had frozen 1/2 bananas on popsicle sticks coated with something in the freezer. Carob of chocolate dipped in nuts or coconut, melted peanut butter and unsweetened coconut, all sorts of goodies. Healthy good snacks.
