Since quite a few people mentioned “intuitive eating,” I looked it up and realized that I was sort of following its principles without even knowing. In a nutshell, it is about valuing who you are.
I am an irremediable brat and I do not do things unless I enjoy them. I refuse to feel guilty when I choose playing piano over bicycling. I bike when I want to, not because I have to. I like the way my fingers glide on the piano keys although I am sure this activity is not burning any calories.
My daily calorie intake has been around 800 for quite some time. I am able to maintain this regimen because it feels gentle on my body. I am miserable when I am full. I don’t believe having a full stomach is necessary. I am happier and more productive when my stomach is lighter.
Most importantly, living this way allowed me to embrace aging and value the time I have left on this earth. I am content for the first time ever. I am kinder now. Kinder to myself and others. The nature of the relationships with my loved ones, living or deceased, has completely transformed. I like this.

Per GOOGLE: "Specifically, for a 170 pound individual, playing piano will apparently burn about 54 calories every 15 minutes" It is active hand/eye coordination and stimulates the brain which is so important as we age. So there you go! Play on, Sister!

Rosie, it’s always good to see your name! How have you been? It’s so hot, I’m dedicating this lovely piano piece to you, Reflets dans l’eau, by Debussy. It’s a perfect summer music to cool you down. I burn 54 calories while playing it, so it’s a win-win!!

If anyone out there is interested in learning more about intuitive eating there is a program available called “NuStart”. I have been using this program for about one month now and I really enjoy it ! It is NOT a diet at all. It is a lot about honoring yourself and becoming healthy with the foods you eat and your mental health. Very holistic. The program was offered to me free through my health insurance and it’s not just a book , a NuStart life coach is also part of the program. My coach has been there every step of the way.

I want to clarify, what I am doing is not “intuitive eating.” I am simply choosing what feels right for me, focusing on what is important to me. My middle name is Mademoiselle Non, and I will never allow any wellness methods or philosophy to control my actions and choices. IE principles sound good, I have nothing against them, but I reject labeling my lifestyle as such.

I agree with listening to your inner voice when eating as long as you have knowledge over laying it. I very much believe our body guides us to eat what we need. It was revealing to me when I starting eating prime food my hunger went down and happiness up. Please keep playing piano. I no longer can and I crave it more than hot fudge. Music can give a deep spine shiver that blooms your soul. 🎹

Sparky, you are a very special person and I must dedicate Bach BWV 1060, 2nd movement, performed by Schiff and Kocsis. Two pianos correspond and sing their most intricate, innermost emotions. It evokes poignancy and paradox between two people. I think about the man I love and sweet small quarrels we had. We can play this movement together, using our imagination. Music gives us so much freedom, don’t you agree?
