Katsolo's Journal, 29 June 2020

Very green salad today. I have a pineapple in the fridge, but I need to cut it up first. More than enough veggies on this plate for now anyways. I bought some tomato and basil plants yesterday. need to plant them this afternoon. Two of the only things I am consistently good at growing. and grapes. those take zero effort as long as the caterpillars don't find them.

dish soap in water spray under the leaves so they can't take hold. if that doesn't work, try doc bronner's peppermint liquid soap in water. you can also just grow a small pot inside your house, it does well enough with filtered light.

question: if the neem oil isn't working for you are you spraying under the leaves or just spraying the plant? that's where the aphids really take hold and they need to eat the neem oil to die. as I understand it, and I am not a master gardener at all, most pest control, natural or otherwise, needs to get to the pests to be effective. so you have to get it where they hide and gently move the leaves and spray underneath.

I want to say banana peels and orange peels cut up on the soil also repel aphids. there's a book called "dead daisies drive me crazy" by loren nancalrrow. that's where I think I got it from. not sure if still in print. it's mostly organic, non-toxic solutions.
