The hubby will be gone for two workouts this week. So my choices are:

1) do the same workout with my 13 yr old as my spotter. She’s not even supposed to be in that area but I’m sure nobody would say anything.
2) find machines that mimic the same workouts and have the kiddo come along
3) do them alone in the morning
4) skip them completely

4 is out I think. 3 doesn’t seem safe but it would be quiet and I wouldn’t have to deal with others.

Thankfully he will be back for Friday’s workout. That’s the one I can do alone though lol. Monday is incline, bench and military press along with hips, calves and lat raises. The first three I’d need a spotter for or machines. We have a shoulder press and chest press machines. Those would be for military and bench I believe. No clue what to use for incline press. :/

When my husband can’t be their to spot me, I will switch my work for that day for stuff I can do without him spotting, or use the machines. Now in some gyms, you may get a worker to a regular to spot you. You would just have to ask.

So- not trying to be an ass- but you can only work out with a spotter? Or am I missing something?

If it was me I would pick #3. Which option do you like best?

DP you aren’t being an ass 😉. It’s an honest question. I’m not stable yet. I do 4-6 reps with each bench exercise and I don’t trust myself to be able to go almost to failure without a helper. Now I could just do the bar and call it good but that won’t help muscle building much. Although... after thinking on it, I’m supposed to take a week off or light week every 8 weeks. This could be that week. My teenager wants to help but also wants to play ball. She wants to beat me is the real reason lol. Lift more than me. She should as she’s been lifting off and on for 2 years, taller than me by 1-2” and outweighs me by 10#.

Rosio I like 1 the best I think IF she still wants to when she gets home. 2 if not or they won’t let her. 3 worries me because staff usually isn’t in that area much in the mornings and I have to take the youngest to the eye dr this afternoon.

Kandy, I’m not comfortable talking to others there unless I’ve seen them a lot. If my old trainer was there I’d pay her to help me this week but I haven’t seen her in months so I think she quit. Good suggestion though if I can work up the nerve to ask one of those hulking men lol. Women just sue the cardio machines in the mornings and I don’t trust a cardio person to lift 125# off of me lol. Or 75# for my bench.

Chris, I prefer the smith machine because I can utilize the stops. But I also dislike when others take it for half an hour. I don’t know if I want to be that person especially with maybe having a kid with me. What are your thoughts on the light week Michael Matthews recommends? I haven’t taken one since we started using the weights this summer.

Do them alone in the morning so you’re not distracted. Be safe.

Light week/ change-up would be my vote. Maybe skip weights and do pushups with feet at various elevations, body weight squats and calf raises, etc. Or learn some new stretches or yoga poses.
