Bloste's Journal, 10 June 2019

It has now been more than a year since I started my program. I started off at 225 lbs. My first goal was to be able to button up my size 46 jacket because I had a wedding to go to at the end of May 2018. I reached that goal. My next goal was to buy a size 36 pant down from my 38s. I reached that goal by the end of June. I'm now a 32/33 pant. My over all goal was to be 170 lbs. by the end of October. I reached that goal and since then, my weight has varied between 165 and 169! My blood pressure is completely normal (120/70) without pills. My cholesterol is normal for a 30 year old. (I'm 72.) I can climb 5 flights of stairs without losing breath. How did I do it? I started off walking outside for 40 minutes and when the weather got nasty, I used the treadmill. I'm now up to 1 hour on the treadmill 5 or 6 times a week and I use my strength ropes 3 times a week. But most important was the change in diet. I actually eat pretty much what I desire, but fewer carbs (only 2 slices of bread per day, max.) The key is that I eat mindfully - that is, I am aware of when I've satisfied my cravings and I stop. Here's an example: I love Costco ice cream -- the chocolate/vanilla swirl. I was in the mood for an ice cream, so ordered one in a cup (I don't like the cones anyway). After about 1/3 of the ice cream, I realized I was satisfied. So I gave the rest up (my partner who is skinny had it). I am careful with the amount of food and the distribution of nutrition I put on my plate and I only eat that. And if I want something after dinner, I usually have popcorn. I drink water instead of fruit juice or soda. I am pretty proud of myself. I've bought some really sharp clothes and intend to wear them out, so no weight gains for me. I'm living the life! If I can do, anyone can because I love food and hated exercise. And it really doesn't take a lot of time. If the former President of the United States can run every day, anyone can find the time to spend an hour doing something for themselves. And it becomes a habit very quickly. Good luck to everyone.

I should add that I used a system called S.M.A.R.T. goals: S = specific M = measurable A = attainable R = realistic T = time bound

Don’t you wish we could get more people to buy into this concept. It is a lifestyle that still allows you to live and enjoy.
