Joelly's Journal, 07 April 2008

So I guess my body didn't like the fact that I lost 10 pounds in 10 days because last week i was completely exhausted. I couldn't get myself to exercise and when I did I was like a zombie on my treadmill.

Its a new week and I vow to get back on track. I'm still in the induction phase but I did have a couple of strawberries on Saturday. Don't judge me it was just strawberries, lol! Then I had a fortune cookie. And the next day I had 6 almonds. MY GOSH was I upset when i saw how many carbs were in 6 almonds (12grams!!!). So I got that all out of my system. I feel better rested and I'll hop on my treadmill tonight.

I'm in a wedding May 4th. Its out of the country and my dress is being made off of measurements. That is real pressure to fit into whatever sized dress they make. (I'm getting there 1 day before the wedding.) Ah well, I'm just looking at it as motivation. Its better that the dress be too big than too small.

Make sure you're getting enough protein, and that you are eating at least every 6 hours as recommended in the Atkins book. I don't think you're counting grams of carbs right in your almonds. There are 2.3g net carbs in 24 almonds, or about 1 oz.

The package said 6 grams per serving and 1 serving was 3 almonds.

hi... was just reading a bit and came across this on wikipedia about almonds (probably not worth a thing *s* but when did that ever stop me before!). Best wishes... "While the almond is most often eaten on its own, raw or toasted, it is used in some dishes. It, along with other nuts, is often sprinkled over desserts, particularly sundaes and other ice cream based dishes. It is also used in making baklava and nougat. There is also almond butter, a spread similar to peanut butter, popular with peanut allergy sufferers and for its less salty taste. The young, developing fruit of the almond tree can also be eaten as a whole ("green almonds"), when it is still green and fleshy on the outside, and the inner shell has not yet hardened. The fruit is somewhat sour, and is available only from mid April to mid June; pickling or brining extends the fruit's shelf life. A popular snack in parts of the Middle East, they're eaten dipped in salt to balance the sour taste. The sweet almond itself contains practically no carbohydrates and may therefore be made into flour for cakes and biscuits for low carbohydrate diets or for patients suffering from diabetes mellitus or any other form of glycosuria. A standard serving of almond flour, 1 cup, contains 20 grammes of carbohydrates, of which 10 g is dietary fibre, for a net of 10 g of carbohydrate per cup. This makes almond flour very desirable for use in cake and bread recipes by people on carbohydrate-restricted diets"

Did you subtract the fiber from the total carbohydrates. We do not count total carbs on Atkins, only net carbs. My package of almonds says 5g carbs, 3 fiber so 2g NET carbs for 1 oz which is 28 nuts according to the package.

If you lost that quickly, there's nothing wrong with including an occasional strawberry or two, or some blueberries to gently slow the loss so your body has time to adjust and you have a little more energy.
