59Carol's Journal, 21 November 2018

The chemo IV part is now done and he has started on the Chemo pills which will last for the next 2 weeks.

Mid December he has a CT scan that a specialist in Edmonton will look at to determine if it is 'worth it' to open him up. If no cancer can be seen she will open him up, look for cancer and remove it if she can, re-attach his colostomy and fix the hernia he got when they removed the cancer and wash the outside of his intestines with a chemo solution. If she opens him up and the cancer is spreading she may just close him up or she may do the colostomy and hernia and then close him up. At any point where there is spreading cancer then it is palliative chemo.

It has a lot of waiting for information in the next few months. This waiting is hard with a great deal of hope and fear mixed together.

As soon as he is awake again, he will finish packing his meds and clothes an then I will need to load up the car. He wants to do a few missions before we leave town. I really hope we get out of town early as the drive is 2.5 hours to get home.

Want to send my deep concern also. Cancer is awful, but there are some great stories, my mom being a true miracle. Right now my teenage sons best friend who is almost 15 has brain cancer, just finished four months of chemo and started radiation for 24 days on Monday. It’s heartbreaking, the young, the older. I know your pain, fears and unknowns. Prayer changes things. I’m a firm believer in Jesus Christ and have a testimony of His power. He’s no respecter of persons. May he grant your husband perfect health in the coming days and a deep peace. Thinking of you both. xo

I am overwhelmed by all the good wishes and caring that all of you have expressed. My husband and I really appreciate it. Our family is very familiar with cancer. My dad died at 46 of bowel cancer, my mother died at 60 of bowel cancer and I have survived cervical cancer, two skin cancers 10 years apart and breast cancer (with chemo, surgery and radiation). My husband has bowel cancer. Our family knows how to pull together and deal with the possibility of mortality. We truly appreciate all the people who have wished us well and are praying for us.
