*whimper* My credit card just took a big hit 😞. 114 protein bars, a 21 serving powder tub, pb2 powder ordered. Normally this would cost me about $160. It was $230 😭. The bars are seasonal and won’t be sold until this time next year. So ended up paying $1.75 each for those instead of $1.17. Also trying a new powder by the same company. Twice as much there too over the one I have now. However it’s 120 calories for 25g vs 210 for 30g for the old and the old isn’t all that great now that I’ve had these cinnamon bars. The store is also having trouble getting my premade shakes. 🤬 Those are $3+ online and now I pay $1.82. I think hubby would have a cow if I got those too. I’ve already explained about what I’ve bought. He’s not happy but understands that the other option is buying more meat and me eating way more of that. Honestly it would average out about the same but I’d gain weight again. So... bars it is lol. The bars will also last me about 3 months if I eat them as I do now. Can stretch that out to 5 months if I add some 200 calories ones in that aren’t good but are tolerable occasionally.

Glad I'm not into trying to up my protein yet. I'll get to the point where I feel this pain, I'm sure, but not it is not this day.

do you want to swap protein bills??? I go through close to 1kg(2.2 pounds) in powder a week if you combine whey and casein. I buy 22 pounds at a time to reduce cost(10kg) then I often buy bars in box qty, again to save money. but I budget at least $60 a week for whey and casein lmao

Hahaha I don't want to know what your bill is hahahaha.

😳 $60 a week?? Wow. Normally I’m about that per month lol. Not including my protein smoothies I order in town. That about $20 a month. I’ll keep my protein bill thanks Keith!

I could get the protein from ground beef (see Chris I say that instead of burger now so I don’t confuse anyone!). However for the 90/10 stuff here it’s around $7-8 per pound. That’s 118g P per day and 1000 kcal. On a diet it would mean 200 calories in other stuff and 500 in maintenance 😖😭. I can easily eat 2/3# in one meal. So that’s one meal a day, a half meal and two 90 calorie snacks and my vitamins would put me at about 1224 per day. I tried eating that little at the beginning and let’s face it, I wasn’t very nice lol. I now understand ‘hangry’! Or I could just have 5 cans of tuna per day for about 500 calories and 100g protein (don’t quote me there as I didn’t look that one up). That’s about $5 a day with condiments. But more room to play. That much tuna probably isn’t good for me though.

The thing people always neglect with protein is absorption. There is no real point to a meal with much more then about 50g of protein as the body won't absorb it anyway. I try to hit my 240 grams of protein over 5 sittings. This could be an old wives tale but it rings true to me. I could have so much more chicken with tea but I would not really get any benefits from it as 200g of chicken breast is 60+g of protein so 10g of that probably ends up in the toilet untouched as it is. Anyone have thoughts on this either way? Their is plenty of conclusive evidence to support both sides of this question hahaha

Everything I read for women says 20-40g I believe per meal/snack. If I stuck to that then I would have a small patty every meal and be hungry all day lol. With the ground beef thing. Right now I’m pretty sure that 50g is my max. 47ish tonight eating out and that was a large meal. 30g for my shakes. I’m curious as to if anyone knows as well. From personal experience rather than online 😉.

My personal experience is why I believe their is alot of truth to it. I don't think my body absorbs more the 50g over approx 3-4 hours

3-4 hours? Thanks! I’ll tey to make sure I spread it out a bit more. I tend to have most of mine from 7pm-2am with a little around 12pm. I should probably have a bit in the morning or have some of that as a mid afternoon snack.

Protein with every meal is the key in my opinion👌 this might be totally wrong but it's what I have done and it has worked awesomeness for me

Well I eat around 12 pm, 7 pm and a snack around 11pm and whatever I still need to eat proteinwise when I go to bed. That’s anywhere from midnight to 3am. Occasionally I’ll have breakfast but only if I have to drive an hour or more so that I don’t stop for junk or when I wake up so hungry that my stomach hurts. That’ll be tomorrow because I’ve been hungry for over 3 hours now lol. Already set out a protein bar 😉.

Put up a pic of the bars ya bought, I'll put up my go to faves tonight

That's what I was saying before, for every study that disproves it there is one to validate it. I believe it to be true just based on personal experience. I find no benefit to more the 50g over 4 hours. It might be different if I was bulking but cutting it made 0 difference in lowering body fat %

Interesting how much protein each person eats on here and goals... I was at 1g/lb but lowered it.
22 Oct 18 by member: Cb1006
I'm sitting approx 1.3g per pound
22 Oct 18 by member: keith george cooke
That's maintenance though, would go up marginally if I was cutting and it would drop if I was attempting a bulk

I’m sad that Powerbar discontinued its chocolate protein shake! Don’t know if you have ever tried it but it was the closest thing to yummy chocolate milk I have ever had. It was expensive , $30 for a case of 12 30g for 160 calories. Now I’m using an Atkins product 30g protein for 190 calories and it’s ok...
