One Day of Planned Eating

Blood sugar 76 mg/dL

😎 So, I lost 8 pounds in 7 days. Decent, but, I feel I could have done better if I had watched my carbs more carefully. However, "expectations is the enemy of happiness" :) I want to be happy more than I want to be thin.

📅 Yesterday, I took in only 12 net carbs. I also took in 1300 calories, and normally that many calories would not allow me to lose weight, but, I still lost 2 pounds. I also went for a 7 mile 🏃 run yesterday and that may have helped.

🧘🏾‍♂️ I should do the same thing again today, but, I decided not do try anymore 'extended fasting' past 5-6 days. Here are some of the problems I had with my 11 day 'no solid food' fast three weeks ago:

🌟I actually get bored at times from not eating. I have to maintain a ‘fasting mindset’ and sometimes I get tired of this mindset and want to stop fasting. Then I think of what would I rather do instead? Then I realize that the ‘eating mindset’ is just as tiring.

🌟Consuming excessive amounts of protein powder is just as bad as gorging on food. Less damaging, but the real purpose of fasting is NOT to ‘gorge’. ‘Gorging’ is damaging both mentally and spiritually.

Today I will 'carb up', go to the gym, watch TV and eat BBQ. I will probably gain a few pounds, but back on the 5 day 'no solid food' fast on Monday.

Have a good day everyone!

@jenjabba - My blood sugar is only high in the morning if I have a lot of carbs the day before. To me, this means my body is still producing insulin (and making fat). MY cells are not cooperating so my body is making MORE insulin (this is what Dr. Fung describes as 'insulin resistant'). If I were not 'insulin resistant' my blood sugar would not be so high because the insulin would have moves it into my cells. - - I only lost weight after reading Dr. Fung's book and following his advice. Everything I do is ONLY about reducing insulin. Yes, I cut the carbs, but I also reduce the time that the carbs I do have enter my system. When I screw that up my weight loss slows.

Look up the "Dawn Phenomenon". Apparently circadian rhythm / hormones tend to cause higher blood glucose levels in the morning for diabetics, regardless of how good their control was the previous day.

if you are insulin resistant any time you eat carbs with wakes the insulin cycle up. best way to keep it sleeping is to not eat the carbs. it takes a long time of no carbs to keep the insulin at bay. I hope over time that I will eventually keto adapt and better use my fat stores. It will help more when I eventually start building up my resistance work.

is that just eating it in the morning when the dawn effect is going on or is it any time you eat even after letting the dawn effect wear off and blood sugar normalized?? I assume if you don't eat until afternoon that early morning blood sugar eventually drops. when your blood sugar is dropped to normal do you have it jump up after eating then too??

Adef we both agree it was only the 2 to 3 pounds of fat you gained and yep I agree when you eat any amount of carbs you wake up the insulin process and it will immediately store any carbs it can as fat. totally agree. I also know when the body is stressed and thinking it is being starved it will fight to retain that fat. vicious cycle.

Dawn Phenomenon is high BS before eating. BS of 120 would give me concern - to keep A1c in the normal range, I try to keep my highest BS in the low 90s.
