SoCalPam's Journal, 19 September 2018

I just measured myself, then went back to June and looked at my measurements then. On June 15th I weighed 164.6 and my measurements totaled 220". Today I weighed 149.9 and my total measurements came in at 204".

I'm not having to lose a ton of weight, and I'm not doing anything like meal replacement or fasting or changing a lot. Little changes have made a big deal in my life and even though I've been bouncing around the past couple of weeks gaining and losing the same couple of pounds, I feel very motivated by the inches! My pants are all loose; I wore some today that used to be very snug and now I can pull them off without unbuttoning them. That's motivation!

I feel better. I'm only 5'3" but I'm walking a little taller, LOL! I'd like to encourage all of you to keep on doing whatever you're doing. Little things add up!

Five years ago I weighed 185 and I'm down 35 pounds from that. I wasted some time doing the diet yo-yo but feel confident that those days are behind me. I still get cravings... the last couple of weeks I've been kind of blue and have felt several times that a doughnut would make me happier. I am shocked that I've been able to resist. My brain won over my stomach! If there's some way to knock that little diet devil off my shoulder, I'd sure like to know how. Cravings and temptation are so hard to combat sometimes.

I'm saying all this having had a bowl of ice cream tonight, but I measured it and saved up enough calories to "afford" it. That system works for me. I ate a lot of raw zucchini for lunch to be able to have that ice cream and it was totally worth it!

Nice, you have found the secret to working most any food in your plan. IMO, moderation is the key to avoiding bingeing...

I love your attitude. I try very much not to deprive myself there really is no sense in that, it always fails. However much like you - I do negotiate with myself. I often say if you still want that treat then wait till later, sometimes I go off the idea. Or sometimes I trade for something else I like, a book or something yummy that's nutritious or a new workout item or class. If I still really want it, I try and compensate like you so that I 'afford it' that means run it off or compensate for it.

Bandrai, those are good tips. If I'm home, and feel snacky, I'll make myself do a chore before eating: wiping down all the kitchen counters, sweeping the patio, or something that doesn't take too long. Then, if I still want to eat, I do, but often I find that I've successfully diverted myself. I think I eat a lot out of boredom.

I have the same WOE. I can’t count the number of times I’ve cut back in one area or meal so that I could have pizza or a candy bar. Some days I have both and don’t cur back. But hey, if that’s what it takes to stick with it then I’ll live with my slow loss instead of he fast lost I really want. Good job saying no to the donuts! (And I bet the ice cream was so worth it)

pepperjj, I've been eating too much ice cream lately and not making corrections in my WOE for the additional calories. I eat it, then I feel guilty, which is not the goal. Last night I did save some calories for a treat, and I enjoyed it so much more! I feel like planning for a treat is more satisfying than just randomly eating something on the fly. It's a new way of thinking, and I'm liking it. I can anticipate the enjoyment and that adds to the fun of the treat.

Way to gooo! I haven't even thought of measuring myself. Where do you measure yourself?

I measure the areas I'm interested in changing. For me that's my bust, stomach, hips, thighs, calves, and biceps. I try to find the same place to measure each time and do it at the same time of day. I like to weigh every day but I measure once or twice a month.

I’m the same Pam. Some days I’ll just grab something then I’m mad at myself. Much easier to plan things. Also use protein bars and shakes as my snacks. That way when I feel like a full junkfood day I add those in and it’s almost like I had junkfood again. Personally I have to allow for at least one snack a day that is simple carbs. Although sometimes it’s an ounce of chips and an ounce of cheese. Some days I eat low cal meals and have 2-3 snacks.

“A doughnut would make me happy”. Story of my life. Sigh....

I had ice cream today, black walnut ice cream. Have been really good for weeks now and no loss. Maybe giving in to the evil ice cream will shock my metabolism into gear.

Yes John if we include “junk food” we won’t feel deprived, we don’t binge eat 😌 that simple

I agree Pam and great job with your weight loss. I will have extra carbs too if I feel like a snack but I work them off or factor them into my diet. I too have lost in inches and pounds. 54 pounds down since March this year and 40 inches so I know how good you feel!
