End of the Eight Week Blood Sugar Diet! I did a total of 4 weeks (not consecutive) at the plan's 800 calorie level, the rest was low carb-to-keto, and still low calorie, and there were two over-the-top days. Results: Gave up 15.6 lbs and 4 inches from my waist. I have to say that most of those improvements came during the first 3 weeks of the diet in which I lost 11 lbs and 3.75 inches from my waist. I also did 16:8 intermittent fasting in the last couple of weeks. While it may help improve insulin resistance I'm not sure there's a noticeable difference in my weight loss progress.

So if your health allows and you want to lose weight fast this program will get it done. And for those who stand by the notion that rapid weight loss isn't good and causes quick regains, studies have shown this is not the case. In fact, those who lost weight rapidly were more likely to stick with their programs longer. Regain statistics are equally bad for the fast and slow losers. There is a private and well-monitored support site on Facebook for people doing this program that is excellent and very encouraging.

Though I'm barely into the 170's, it's very exciting since I haven't been there in 4 years.
179.8 lb Lost so far: 29.0 lb.    Still to go: 24.8 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Be careful with such calorie restrictions. They can do significant damage to your system. Glad you are taking off pounds. But always remember, permanent weight loss takes time.

@erquiaga: I decided to try the program because of the excellent long term results seen with a group of patients in whom it was tested. Included in their program was special imaging that showed the very low calorie program (also low carb) was very effective at removing fat deposits around (in?) the liver and also around the pancreas. Fat in the liver responded quickly but the pancreas took longer. There is some speculation that fatty pancreas may be implicated in type 2 diabetes. People in the study were obese and all of them kept the weight off when they returned to normal eating. (Apparently no permanent damage.) This small study's success was instrumental in getting funding for a three year multi-country study in Europe. Results are due out some time this year. Personally I think permanent weight loss is only achieved by remaining vigilant to what, how much and when I eat. I've lost weight before and gained it all back because I stopped paying attention and indulged excessively. You might say I don't believe in "permanent weight loss" though I still hope to stabilize at my goal weight.

Good for you. It always amazes me when people don't do their research, first. You, obviously, have done the work!❤️

@erquiaga: Thanks - and isn't there a lot of information "out there"! Have to pick through it for the reasonable stuff.

Donna: There is a book by Dr. Michael Moseley "The 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet." He references the study. I can't copy links with my tablet but there is an article at the diabetesuk (diabetes.org.uk/Research) website "The DIRECT route to Type 2 Remission" that talks about the studies. The initial work was done by Professor Roy Taylor at Newcastle University in Glasgow, Scotland. You can search on those parameters.

Donna: Also, I see that the study mentioned at diabetesUK is just in the UK. I'm pretty sure I read about a European one as well. Also, the study was not done with everyday foods but (mentioned in his book) Moseley spoke with Taylor about whether using real foods could affect results and Taylor said everyday foods are probably preferable. They used shakes and soups in the study so they could get accurate and consistent nutrient counts. While the book is informative I did not find the meal suggestions appealing so I ignored them. It is a Mediterranean style diet.

Yes...that's the book I just read. I'm hoping to join the next online group program with it.

Good luck, HypnoDeb! If you're doing this, ask to join the FB group also. They are very helpful. The only really strange thing I encountered for about a week was a really bad taste in my mouth, and since some others in that group experienced that too I was reassured that it would pass.

Deb - you can join the FB group at any time.

Can you send me the link to the specific fb group? I just joined a couple of them but the one for support seemed to be closed.

The one I am in is "The 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet Support Group" It's based in England but there are people from all over in it. You have to request admission (so maybe that's why it says it's closed) but they aren't difficult about it. You can just say you read the book and you're eager to get started. There is also a follow-up group you can graduate to when you're done; I believe they do restricted calories 2 days a week. I guess I should join! You'll find that some people can't hack 800 calories but remain in the group, still follow the principles of the program and up the calories.

Wow great results! I wonder in the studies what they consider quick? I mean, quick loss doesn't mean quick regain so you can have a reasonable amount of time you won't regain the weight you've lost. I am curious what the timeline is and how they studies post weight loss after a study. Interesting.

Glad you got those results!

I see your point, Terrapin12. Some people in a study might choose to continue working on weight loss and lose weight, that would skew results.
