Foundations - Dressing from the inside out

As promised, here is the first in a series of posts about dressing your new body! I think the best place to start is on the inside. Your undergarments are equally if not more important that what you put on the outside. Having a properly fitting bra can easily make you appear 5 lbs lighter.

Bras have an average lifespan of about 6 months! That's it! You should not be wearing a bra that you've had for 6 years. One, it is probably got a hole or two in it. Two, it's probably to stretched to function. Three, you're probably wearing the wrong size. A properly fitting bra will lift your girls up and separate them. By lifting them up you will draw more attention to the smallest part of you waist and make your torso look longer. Plus, making sure you have a well fitting bra, even one that has a little sex appeal will go a long ways for your confidence even if none but you sees it. I know I feel sexy when I have on my black lacy bra. You will walk with a confident air about yourself. When you go to get a new bra you should also get a bra fitting by an expert! I recommend Victoria's Secret. Their fittings are free and you can try on a variety of styles. Lane Bryant is also fantastic since VS only goes up to a certain size. While I am very brand loyal to VS you don't have to spend a fortune for good bras. Once you get measured shop around. Places like Target and Kohl's are now selling cute and well fitting bras.

When trying on bras here are tips to keep in mind:
1. The number is the band size, how many inches around you are. The letter is the cup size.
2. The bra should lift your breasts up to an inch below your armpits.
3. You should not have excess hanging over the band. They should be snug but create a smooth look underneath your shirt
4. If your size doesn't fit perfectly in style try on a sister size. For example, if you wear a 38D a 36DD or a 40C may also work. The rule is go up in one size band or cup, go down one size in the other
5. Wear an underwire! Just do it! If you are wearing the proper size it will not be uncomfortable.
6. Don't be afraid to try and own several different styles.
7. Buy a couple of different styles. You will want to wear different bras with different outfits.
8. Make sure you have 1 good strapless. This one you will not replace every six months unless you wear it everyday. A good strapless will fit you pretty snug. I like a good push-up strapless.
9. The center of the bra, between the cups should lay flat against your chest. Do not buy a bra where your breasts are falling out of the cups.
